I have seen people say that here a few times.....it doesn't remind me at all of Suppers Ready other than it's a long track. While not nearly as long I think The Province is a better song.

I agree with that. The Province is a much better track. Harvest of Souls has a few very good sections, but that synth solo by Orford mid-song, that's supposed to be this big cataclysmic sonic thing comes off sounding completely uninspired. Destroys the flow for me.

I Think an epic doesn't have to exceed 20min to be an epic. ;) Threshold--CRITICAL MASS (13:35) is a track that is sure please. ^ also IQ's The Province is a good choice as well. Harvest of souls doesn't remind me of suppers ready at all really. Maybe a similar song structure with transitional similarities but that is it. Music wise. Totally different.

I disagree with the BTBAM one. There's so many better choices they could have picked for that, like White Walls or Swim To The Moon. Sleep Parliament's good, but not really that captivating, at least for me anyways. They have so many more memorable tunes, especially one's with more "oh sh*t, that part!" moments.

I should have added The Last Human Gateway - IQ ..and if The Province comes into the reckoning then I would also add Further Away although for me 15 minutes just isn't 'epic' enough

Popmatters has an article today entitled, "The 10 Progressive Rock Epics You Need to Hear Now." The 10:
1. Beardfish - “Sleeping in Traffic”(from Sleeping in Traffic: Part Two, 2008) 2. Between the Buried and Me – “Silent Flight Parliament” (from The Parallax II: Future Sequence, 2012) 3. Big Big Train – “The Underfall Yard” (from The Underfall Yard, 2009) 4. The Decemberists – “The Island” (from The Crane Wife, 2006) 5. Echolyn – “Mei” (from Mei, 2002) 6. The Flower Kings – “I am the Sun—Part One” (from Space Revolver, 2000) 7. Phideaux - “Snowtorch (Part One)” (from Snowtorch, 2011) 8. The Pineapple Thief - “What Have We Sown?” (from What We Have Sown, 2006) 9. Spock’s Beard – “The Great Nothing” (from V, 2000) 10. Devin Townsend – “The Mighty Masturbator” (from Deconstruction, 2011)
The author writes that "newer gems like Porcupine Tree’s Anesthetize, Dream Theater’s Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence, and the Mars Volta’s Cassandra Gemini are surely at the forefront of every prog lover’s consciousness," but that there "are plenty of other relatively recent epics that are either underappreciated or under the radar," including his list of 10.
Do you agree with this list? What would your list look like?

hmmm, from that list I agree on
1. Beardfish - “Sleeping in Traffic”(from Sleeping in Traffic: Part Two, 2008) 3. Big Big Train – “The Underfall Yard” (from The Underfall Yard, 2009) 5. Echolyn – “Mei” (from Mei, 2002) 7. Phideaux - “Snowtorch (Part One)” (from Snowtorch, 2011) 9. Spock’s Beard – “The Great Nothing” (from V, 2000) 10. Devin Townsend – “The Mighty Masturbator” (from Deconstruction, 2011)
In fact the pick of the crop is Mei, but its the whole album as one track. It absolutely floored me, with its emotion, powerful themes and incredible musicianship. Snowtorch is also a mastepeice

Just for fun. Möbius Slip. (19:37) by Sound of Contact. I think this track could covert a lot of people to love and want to explore the true depths of prog music. ;)

I think that for a lot of songs. Never happens. Good luck, though!

I usually get 'sh*t on' promoting my vast world of prog on people. I think the problem is a ton of people like accessible easy to follow music, and I don't. Guess this is why I keep to myself more often than not. I even have yet to meet a woman who truly loves and knows so much about prog. Anyway. I shall just carry on. At least I myself have found something I truly love. ;)

Nope, those wouldn't be my 10. I'd just tell em to pick up the Colossus/Musea Records project from 2005: Odyssey: The Greatest Tale.
Or they could have this list:
"Avatar" - SWANS "Frozen Moment" - NINE STONES CLOSE "Concerto for Piano and Electric Ensemble" - KOTEBEL "Firebears" - THE TEA CLUB "Fire! Fire!!" - MY BROTHER THE WIND "In Orbit" - WOBBLER "Tempest" - FREQUENCY DRIFT "Dance" - FREQUENCY DRIFT "Epitaph for A Mariner" - SEAN FILKINS "Transition" - LUNATIC SOUL "The Sirens Sound" - COLLAPSE UNDER THE EMPIRE "Lashes" - FOURTEEN TWENTY-SIX "Echoes of Madness" - BROTHER APE "Herculean" - KHATSATURJAN "Vapour Trail" - SYLVAN "Summer Fall" - AISLES "Serenity in a Nutshell" - CIRRUS BAY "Excerpt from 6,000,000,000,000 Miles Before the First, or, the Revisitation of the Blue Ghost" - MAUDLIN OF THE WELL "La Temperanza" - La Coscienza di Zeno "Sensitivita" - La Coscienza di Zeno "The Aftermath of Science" - T "Atlantis (confedratus pecuniis)" - Unreal City "Germander Speedwell" - Theives' Kitchen
And that's just from the last five years!
