Topic: Proof we have all died and gone to Heaven Posted: June 24 2013 at 15:14 |
I don't wanna get all religious here, but reality gives me no choice.
I have conclusive proof that anybody reading this has died and gone to heaven.
For real.
Why??? Simple:
Starting October, with Close To The Edge, YES will be releasing 5.1 Steven Wilson mixes.
For those who don't know, Steven Wilson is at the forefront of 5.1 mixing and YES is...well... no explanation
needed there.
Read this and weep tears of joy.
Go here for more glorious discourse:
oh.... 2.0 trolls please stay away.

I hope y'all are being sarcastic. If not, then why comment if you don't like SW's mixing or CttE? This is fun news. I'll be excited to hear Topographic.

Craig-baby wassup??? Don't worry, the above two jokers came here to troll in what they thought was a religious thread. Ignorance is curable, stupidity is not. Hold on big fella! Tales in 5.1 is still a dream, lets not get our hopes up. I would think though, that we would at least get Relayer & GFTO (Fragile has been out in 5.1 DVD-Audio for years...) Tales would be true heaven for me though. I know Steven loves that record and he does seem to mix what he likes so that is great news. I am not sure we will ever get Yessongs in 5.1 because I think it was mixed on a 4-track mixer direct to 2 or 4 track tape, so many instruments are already mixed together, no way to do a discrete 5.1 mix. maybe somebody knows if Yessongs was actually recorded live to a multi-track 8 or 16 track tape, if yes, then yeah they could do a great 5.1 mix for it.

If this is really true, I want someone to show me where the line is to ask some questions for the Apostle Paul.

No, I came in to tell it like it is. When SW tried to remaster King Crimson albums it was a disaster, and those were actually good to begin with.

Hmmm....I'm beginning to wonder if these remix things going on by Wilson is a conspiracy to make us shell out more money so these bands can get a little richer.
But if he is going to do Yes.....he better do Fragile , The Yes album, and Relayer also.

There was a heaven's gate pass with the 2003 remaster, no need to get another one.

What's going on here...? Is Wilson getting phone calls from these bands or is he soliciting by calling the bands he likes or what..?
Maybe he should spend less time remixing stuff and more time writing some good prog tunes...?

Hi Doc, What's happening is that Steven Wilson is personally selecting the titles he wants to remix. In 2009 he gave a list of 20 records he believes deserve the 5.1 hirez treatment. The XTC mix he already did, Close To The Edge, Tull - Thick As A Brick and the Crimson all were on the list, so its pretty obvious he is working his way through the list. He did the first two ELP but passed on more saying he simply wasn't a big fan of the music. He is recognized as being at the vanguard of 5.1 remixing, so he pretty much get what he wants. Also, Chris Squire's Fish Out Of Water is coming out in 5.1 later this year as well.

I bought the 5.1 DVD-A of Fragile and I too think it is wonderful. I'd rather they do YES that hasn't been done in 5.1 before they repeat a 5.1 on Fragile. Relayer, The YES Album & Tales & GFTO would be a nice start.

I've heard nothing but good things about the KC remixes. Fish Out of Water would sound great. GFtO...of course! Now, when's SW gonna remix some TFK in 5.1?

They probably can't afford that sort of thing, plus he doesn't like TFK.
If a post-metal fan tells you something is mixed bad it's probably immaculate though. SW's mixing on his own albums is certainly perfect, although remixing old albums does present a very different challenge.

TFK can't afford Wilson, I'm sure (also, I don't think Wilson would take the job anyway.....I don't think he cares for their music). Roine himself has never done a 5.1, not sure he's interested in that.
I only have the Lark's remix for Crimson, and it is fabulous. I did love the original, vinyl mix, but this is much better than previous CD releases, without question.
As to Yes, I just don't listen to them anymore, and I don't have a 5.1 setup (well, I DO have a 5.1 system.......but my place is too small to set it up......arggh!! )

He's quoted as saying that Pawn Hearts is the one album that he'd really love to get his hands on. In his words, it's just so otherworldly and he'd like to get inside it and work with it. But I haven't heard of Pawn Hearts getting the treatment so maybe SW isn't able to get that one for some reason (I know that Virgin / EMI did a reissue just a couple of years ago that was remastered with bonus tracks and a nice booklet [they actually did that for all the VdGG albums]; maybe that has something to do with it).
