What are some of the prog albums (or bands, songs, whatever) that you love despite being disgustingly cheesy?
So far I would have to say everything I've heard by Rick Wakeman. Oh my god, King Arthur is sooooo cheesy and that's why I love it so much. The song Guinevere is pretty adorable I think.
People seem to say ELP is cheesy a lot, which I guess I can't argue against, but I don't think about their cheesiness much unless I'm listening to one of their novelty numbers like Benny the Bouncer or something. Hah, that's a funny song. That keyboard's sound in the solo on Tank is awesome. I don't care what anyone says.
What else people?

Dream Theater, especially Images and Words. It's so cheesy from start to finish, but I couldn't care less. A masterpiece album in my book and one I'm proud to spin time and time again, no matter how powerful the cheese factor might be.

I lost 25 pounds shaking my yamma yamma like I was humping a ghost.
I adore Slapp Happy. I was pretty surprised when I heard that song. Well, they had taken a break for a while; you never know how musicians will change over the years. LOL

I've now been lurking around in several english speaking music forums for about ten years and I still haven' t been able to pin down what exactly "cheesey" means.
I know what a cheese is. I also know about different kinds of cheese, hard,soft, big pipes, small pipes, seasoned? But how can it be applied to music?

It really has nothing to do with the food. I don't really know why people started saying "cheesy" or "corny" (and why it's always food), but I know what people mean when they say it. It basically means fake, silly, cheap, inauthentic, and stuff like that. Some cheap sounding or dated synthesizer sounds (like in Tank) are often described as cheesy. I found, for example, a lot of Rick Wakeman's music to be cheesy (like in King Arthur) because of the way it mixes very dramatic orchestral music with rock and roll and '70s synthesizers making it sound a bit awkward aesthetically. I don't think everything that is cheesy is necessarily bad or undeserving of praise (well obviously, since I said I think Rick Wakeman's King Arthur is great), but has some less than authentic aspects which sometimes make the music even more fun to me. I find most of Wakeman's music to be both genuinely excellent songwriting with very cheesy elements on top of it.

For some non-musical examples, you could take a poorly written romance movie/ book/ etc. The characters might use some overly elaborate (and awkward and "cheesy") metaphors to describe their love for each other, which make the story pretty unconvincing. A specific word for "cheesy" romances is "sappy".

I would say King Arthur as well although in point of fact its more 'theatrical'  than 'cheesy'.

ELP's Tank was a demonstration of the original Moog synth's power. It sounds dated now but wouldn't call it 'cheesy'.

Jeff Wayne's 'War Of The Worlds' is another contender although comparing to Rick's King Arthur I much prefer the latter.

The other 'cheese' thread reminded me of Kayak. I love them and not ashamed to admit it but they had their moments

I would have to know the definition of "cheesy" being used here, since I consider Wakeman's King Arthur one of the greatest prog albums of all time.  It is the absolutely perfect combination of rock band, orchestra, chorus, "literary" lyrics, and musicianship ever recorded.  It is about as far from "cheesy" as it is possible to get.
