Ok. Multiple votes can be done on this one. What's your preference of these olfactory 1970's delights and why?
It could have been a favourite perfume, incense or some other nostalgic nasal moment, anything really. Smell with your inner hippy Ying Yang.
Just curious...

I like the heavy, oriental night scents. So I picked patchouli, Tibetan musk, sandalwood, cannabis, black oud, aphrodesia and other for Ylang Ylang.

No option for Eau de "Stale beer and an old ashtray" Shocked

I think we still have most of these as joss sticks packed away in the attic, including one marked "Opium", but to my ill-educated nostrils they all pong the same to me.

I managed to misread Tibetan Musk as Tibetan Monk even though the word musk appeared several times before in the options list. I only really remember Patchouli from teh 70s - that stuff was everywhere (concealing to appeal) - which reminds me of the old joke - Hippies never die, they only smell that way.

Oh yeah, I forgot Opium. It's an exellent scent, as incense or perfume. I have an oil called Opius also which appears to be an opium/ orange crossover. Nice stuff.

Preference? Or what it really smelled like? The whole world smelled of cigarettes. And since I was a kid then, a faint waft of Play-Doh.

Ah the staggering mutant funk of day-old beer, smoke, sweat, vomit and incense.

Matured red Burgundy wine. The most pleasant smell that ever penetrated by nostrils was a 1959 (the year of my birth) Gevrey-Chambertin.

No musk or patchouli for me. I dislike both of these.

a blend of all these smells, plus some others added, like asa foetida. reminds me of my days as a kid with my hippie parents. they did have all these scents going at once. incense sticks were burning everywhere in our home all the time

I spent the 70s in diapers, so the smell can't have been too pleasant.

Those pine tree car air fresheners. They will always remind me of my friend's '67 Chevelle. And on 8 track was Aqualung, Journey to the center of the earth, Minstrel in the Gallery, Billion Dollar Babies, ChangesOneBowie, Songs From the Wood, and occasionally Neil Diamond and Gordon Lightfoot for some reason.

Ahhh, the 70s.  Two smells that became the love of my life.  Patchouli oil that my then girlfriend used,  just a dab behind each ear and I became a drooling idiot.  The other was cannabis, nothing else need be said.

I had to let the one that I loved most go.....I am still married to the other.

I got her this a few months ago.  It is loaded with patchouli.....

Eww - To me oranges smell like puke (more specifically it's the peel that's the worse offender) - I'll not permit anyone to peel and/or eat an orange in my office at work, if they must then they can go outside to do it (if I have to go outside to smoke because they don't like the smell, then I'm not being unreasonable in expecting the same courtesy for a smell that I find offensive). There was a norange scented perfume in the 70s that ensured that many teenage girls smelled of puke to my nose:
(Maybe it was girls steeped in Aqua Manda and Lambrusco wine at college discos that triggered the puke connection).

We have a mock orange bush in the garden at home that also smells unpleasantly like puke, but since that grows next to the septic tank I allow it to live. Oddly, the smell of cannabis sets me off on a sneezing fit, yet the incense of the same name does not.

Have you noticed that Goths smell like Hippies? Apart from the faint aroma of clove cigarettes (though few seem to smoke them now) and the unmistakable wiff of velvet apparel soaked in Snakebite & Black, I've even noticed many of them appear to be drawn towards patchouli.

What?

If I recall correctly, it was the pungent odor of cannabis overlaid with a hint of sandalwood. Unless of course you carelessly spilled the bong water and it soaked into the carpet. Then it smelled like something else altogether.

Ummm...what were we talking about again?
...a vigorous circular motion hitherto unknown to the people of this area, but destined
to take the place of the mud shark in your mythology...
