Rajaz over anything else, but I won't be disappointed if Rituale Alieno wins.

In my opinion The Lost Trident Sessions is truly a masterpiece, even better than the official Lp's from Mahavishnu's entire discography, but my heart beats for Dream Theater's Metropolis Pt.II and Rajaz. As regards anathema, instead, I love them only from the second part of their career...

It's Dream Theater all the way. Scenes of a memory is incredible.
It's a real slayer in this category of albums. I would really be surprised if it did not win here. ;)

Okay who let Metal Man in ?   Surprised if they win ? Prepare to be surprised my friend.LOL
Hey I like that album too but I would pick the Metal related Anathema or LT over it. Just my tastes, as bad as they are.

Apparently they might win.LOL   Just shows you can't go by the preliminary polls. A tight race regardless.

Even if the music at first seemed to make me cringe, Sigur Ros' most complete album has still found its way to my heart. Strange how that works. I certainly think it's the most original album out of the lot - even if that has nothing to do with how it good it is. That's were my vote went though.
I also quite like the Godspeed and PT releases here.

Great album Selection here. It's gonna be close. The Anathema album is really good as well.
Ozric is an incredible blend of electronic and other eclectic sounds. OPETH's Still Life is a technical masterpiece. Took me 10 listens to really get. Lol

The Lost Trident Sessions is my album of the year for 1999 and it trully is a masterpeice. I ended up voting Anathema only because it at least has an outside shot here unlike Mahavishnu and Anekdoten.

^ it's not over yet.

Besides a lot of people when they first listen to STILL LIFE aren't gonna go ape sh*t screaming 'that was amazing! Color me in goosebumps!! Lol' Na. It's a very technical listen. You really have to sit with it to pick up on everything to fully appreciate its mastery. I still feel its their best album of all time, but Black Water Park is not far behind.

??!!  They are playing with Explosions In The Sky in my area.  Which was surprising enough! I've seen EITS and hadn't planned on going (not because they're bad).  But if GYBE was opening I definitely would!  Oh well.  Definitely interesting choices for NIN opening acts.

Yeah, you've got a good point. In my opinion, it's the best album on the list by far, but by no means at all is it the most accessible. It's a challenging listen, but a rewarding one if you take the time to appreciate the musical nuances and just how well the story matches the playing.

Although I'm still happy to be the oddball who thinks their absolute best is Ghost Reveries. Once the 2005 poll comes around, that's my vote for sure! Wink

It's no more challenging than anything else on this list, and I went wow the first time I heard Still Life, my first Opeth album as well.

And I'll vote for Still Life as well, I need to hear UTO but nothing else on this list really excites me.
Spending more than I should on Prog since 2005
