Thanks for your thoughts re Bruckner's 4th - Truly appreciate your knowledge and focus on his music -
Among British composers, (Gustav Holst & William Walton), Ralph Vaughn Williams being my favorite (well, this week) I love all three though.
Anyway, my favorite Vaughn Williams recordings are with Sir Adrian Boult, conducting the London or New Philharmonia orchestras.
Also with Neville Marriner conducting the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields-
Especially Vaughn Williams' Symphony No. 2 (London) -

This Mahler 1 has to be heard to be believed, a riveting and deeply moving interpretation.

What's the verdict?
I missed this post for some odd reason. This recording is incredibly lyrical and brings out the beauty in the score; though not a dynamic as previous recordings by Karajan, that doesn't bother me in the slightest. Recommended.

For those of you interested in the Bruckner Ninth Symphony, the link below directs to an interesting bit about the completed versions of the symphony and why they're better than most people think.  (it downloads to your computer as a .pdf)

Picked this up last weekend; it has been remastered, and is at a great price-a wonderful take on Beethoven's symphonies!

The definitive symphony recording, from an original source of the recording; Bruckner's 8th Symphony as only Bruno Walter can do it!

Interesting.  That 80s cycle usually gets kind of trashed, except for the Eroica.

Can anyone recommend me a symphony (or some if you insist)? I'm looking for something which is very interesting regarding composition and arrangement, hopefully the sheets are findable on the internet. I'd like something very classical or maybe post-romantic if it's not too hard to get into. Not really familiar with any symphonies yet except Mozart 40 and Beethoven 5, so you can probably name up a lot of good suggestions!
Any help is much appreciated en avance Thumbs Up

Sorry, somehow, I had not come across your post above until just now..as far as very classical goes, I would recommend the other two late Mozart Symphonies, Nos. 39 and 41, truly astounding. Also, as far as post romantic goes, what comes to mind immediately is Shostakovich Symphonies 5 and 10.
Yet, if I were to recommend anything at all, it would be the last three symphonies of the late romantic composer Anton Bruckner, Nos. 7,8 and 9. Words cannot convey the immense meaning and purpose these works hold for me. They are monumental and Bruckner is the true inheritor of Beethoven's symphonic mantle.
I also would like to tip my hat to Gustav Mahler, an immensely important and pivotal symphonist, whose 6, 7, and 9th Symphonies, especially, are incredible experiences, though pretty mammoth for someone who is just delving into symphonies. Maybe, for you, in time.

Anything Symphony from Hans Werner Henze is amazing :)
Classical music isn't dead, it's more alive than it's ever been. It's just not on MTV.

Listening now and lovin' it. Smile

As for Bruckner, this is the only recording I have:

It's great and I'd like to get more!
