Magenta - 27 Club

I've only just recieved that and had a couple of listens but its a bit of a disappointment to me tbh. I think I had my expectation level set far too high with the addition of Andy Edwards.

Oh that's too bad. I haven't listened to it yet, but certainly I'd like to form some kind of an opinion of the album soon.
Andy Edwards is a pretty good drummer and did fill in adequately for Paul Cook with IQ

I'd like to know what you think of it. Edwards is a brilliant drummer and his influence on IQ even for short space of time was obvious. Perhaps Magenta is just to much about Rob Reed. I actually prefer both Chris Fry's and Christina's solo albums to the last couple of Magenta albums.

This is GREAT progressive metal masterpiece released in 2013; the full-lenght debut CD by Shepherds Of Cassini, the band from New Zealand.

Well. I have not made my official list just yet, but I am very sure that Dream Theater's latest effort will be on my list of 2013 greatest outputs. :)
It's such a quality album. I will be shocked if this doesn't average a little over 4 stars here on PA....really surprised.
Gimmie my headphones now!!! 🎧🤣

I'll change my top pick to Haken - The Mountain (previously it was Anciients -Heart of Oak)

Great album, even though it's probably the least heavy Haken album so far.

You can choose more than one. :) But anyway, that Anciients album is pretty cool. I've gotta spin it a few more times, but the opening track 'Raise the sun' is phenomenal. And the bonus track 'Humanist' is absolutely wild.
Talented band and from CANADA!! Yay!

I liked Haken's The Mountain, Kayo Dot's Hubardo, Sigur Rós' Kveikur, Fire! Orchestra's Exit! and Karnivool's Asymmetry.

I see some places say it came out in 2012, but I definitely couldn't buy it before 2013.

I've only purchased 5 albums released this year. Any other suggestions? I also plan to check out the English Electrics, as there's a lot of hype over those two album. It's been good to know that every album I've bought from this year has been worth the money.

1) Haken - The Mountain
2) Steven Wilson - The Raven that Refused to Sing
3) Dream Theater - Dream Theater
4) Coheed & Cambria - The Afterman: Descension
5) Daft Punk - Random Access Memories (though not prog)

The Raven That Refused to Sing easily beats everything else I've heard this year.
