Topic: Your Favourite 1974 PA Ranked Album Posted: September 02 2013 at 02:51 |
1974. Those 4 innocent numbers represent an incredible year for classic prog fans. From "Red", the album that arguably began the genre of prog metal, to the most musically challenging of all Yes albums, to the album many consider the crown jewel of the Gong Radio Gnome Invisible trilogy, to the album that catapulted Tangerine Dream to international fame, to a pair of Peter Hammill and Magma albums, and finally to one of progs most beloved heroes: Rael, 1974 offered something amazing for every prog fan.
Once again the competition to break into the top 25 was fierce with #25 coming in at 3.8948, nearly identical to 1973's mark of 3.9007. Will we ever see a top 25 with every album ranking a QWR of 4.0 or higher? Tune in to the next poll to find out, meanwhile...
Vote for your favourite 1974 prog album!

Mirage, You, and Relayer are three of my favourite albums. All have such wonderfully evocative qualities. I don't like to pick favourites from my favourites.

I am currently digging: Hawkwind, Rare Bird, Gong, Tangerine Dream, Khan, Iron Butterfly, and all things canterbury and hard-psych. I also love jazz! Please drop me a message with album suggestions.

I have 19 titles from this list, and it was a difficult pick out of the 2 Hammill releases, and Magma's 'Kohntarkosz'- in the end, I've voted for the Magma.

Today: Gong - tomorrow it might be Genesis, Magma, Yes, Wyatt, PFM(almost voted for them) or Biglietto Per L'inferno.

This is another of those impossible polls. My top choice was "Hero & Heroine" by the Strawbs, because it's absolutely one of my favorite albums ever. So are at least half of the other albums listed here, though. The order will change from day to day, depending on my mood, but today here's my top 10: 1. Hero & Heroine 2. Mirage 3. Red 4. Lamb Lies Down 5. Turn of the Cards 6. Power and the Glory 7. Hamburger Concerto 8. Utopia 9. Apostrophe 10. You

What a year!
1- Hero & Heroine 2- Red Queen to Gryphon Three 3- Relayer 4- Hamburger Concerto 5- Red 6- Mirage 7- Phaedra 8-You 9- Kohntarkosz 10- Turn of the Cards
Hero is a lifelong companion that has soothed my wary soul many times, a true prog liberator and musical panacea. Sensational sound, playing, lyrics, production, cover. Just amazing!

Take a wild guess
I must say, this is without a doubt my favorite prog year. Red, Lamb, and Silent Corner are three of my favorite albums ever, and I'm a big fan of Relayer too for sure! I also want to give an honorable mention to Starless and Bible Black.
