Long: 150 minutes or longer

Medium: between 95 and 150 minutes

Short: 95 minutes or shorter

When I shop for DVDs I prefer the longer ones. Most of my prog DVDs are long DVDs (definition above). However when I go to a live show, I prefer short ones.  That's because I like to take in music in small doses. Long concerts are excruciating both for the musicians and for the audience.

Depends on the music, I guess. I've been to 4-hours concerts that I loved each minute from, and 40 minutes ones I wished were shorter.

My favourite DVD is Yes Symphonic and my favourite gig that I attended was from that same tour. That's about 3 hours. However 3 hrs from most bands would be tedious.

Ohh wait ... prog! That fits! Wink

I better leave here, before PA decides on a size for the prog/progressive definition!

Hi,

Though I had the opportunity to see Pink Floyd in their early days, I can't say that ... shorter is something I enjoy ... I DON'T.

But if all we can take a look at is the length ... and not the music ... we might as well quit right here ... we're more lemmings and a social bunch than I even thought or believed!

Embarrassed

Confused

Cool

2 hours is perfect for me.

Add a 20 minutes encore and it's even better.

Depends on the group and their setlist of course. I've been to 3 Rush concerts featuring around 3 total hours of material each. With the first two, I was like MORE MORE at the end, but with this past one I saw this May, I found myself thinking alright, that's enough, I'm satisfied. Any longer and I would have felt they were overstaying their welcome. But the setlist for this past tour wasn't quite as strong as the others IMO. The best of the three was the Time Machine tour.

Each one I've seen was good.

Roger Waters was a solid 2 hours, performed the whole Wall.

Steven Wilson was two and a half hours, perfect. Nice encore with Radioactive Toy there.

Opeth/Katatonia was good. Katatonia was a very boring hour. Opeth, however, could have easily played around two and a half hours rather than just two. Blackwater Park as an encore was spectacular though.
I consider drone metal to be progressive...

I would like to travel back in time to the late 70's and watch...THE ENID....perform for 2 hrs.  Robert John Godfrey, Francis Lickerish,, and Stephen Stewart ..the 3 founding members at the Hammersmith and other gigs. It was a magical period that I didn't discover until 2001.

It was indeed, I saw them many many times in back then, including the famous Hammersmith gig, even the live albums (as good as they are) do not do justice to the experience of being there.Clap

Am I sitting near a bathroom?

How much does a beer cost?

Do I have to get up for work the next day?

Did I go with my buddy or my disinterested girlfriend?

How late does the train run?

Am I really into this particular band this year?

How is the sound?

Is this an outdoor venue?  How is the weather?

How much does a beer cost? roughly five times the gdp of Ethiopia

Do I have to get up for work the next day? yup, it's also month-end and quotas are down; and there are rumours of layoffs, management are looking closely for tardy slackers.

Did I go with my buddy or my disinterested girlfriend? both, and she's even more disinterested now that your soon to be ex-buddy is plying her with drink and smutty innuendo.

How late does the train run? fifteen minutes after the band announces the last number - you will miss the  end of that song, and the standing ovation, the three encores (where they will play your favourite song that they dropped from their concert set-lists thirty years ago) and unfortunately, the last train

Am I really into this particular band this year? absolutely, they're your favouritist band in the whole world ever and the original singer has just rejoined the band after an absence of twelve years, unfortunately he's had a sex-change since then and is really into disco now.

How is the sound? you know that green semi-solid residue that separates out of milk left that's been left in the fridge for several months? Well if you collect that up and ram it into your ears using a q-tip and a turkey baster so that it starts to dribble out of your nose and tear ducts, even that won't distract you from the excruciating pain created by the travesty of noise that constitutes the sound system.

Is this an outdoor venue?  How is the weather?  yup, it's surprisingly quite pleasant, the sun is shining, the air is warm with the faintest hint of a breeze, there isn't a cloud in the sky, which is a nice change from the last five days torrential rain that's turned the concert arena into a reenactment of the battle of the Somme.

I remember having played for 5 hours with my prog band.

But everyone left after 20 minutes.
