I love the Swans but to be fair, I haven't listened to enough Neurosis to really judge.  They scream a lot, which makes it a bit hard for me to get into - but I can tell that they are really something special, so I'll abstain for now.

I'm trying, but my inner child is already in his twenties.

Over the last year or so, I've been getting acquainted with Swans' output. Their album 'The Seer' was definitely a high point for me in 2012.
Neurosis though, I've known and adored since 1996, so like Steve I'm abstaining as well. I can definitely see myself getting more and more into Swans.

Oh and just for the heck of it, here's one of my fave Neurosis tracks ever The Eye Of Every Storm:

One of my friends from the hardcore scene in Copenhagen has got the lyrics to this tune tattooed on his forearm. It means the world to him.

“The Guide says there is an art to flying or rather a knack. The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss.”

I haven't heard much from either of these, so for me it's The Seer vs Through Silver in Blood. Swans gets the vote, it was one of my favourites from last year. Or this year, I can't remember.

Been a follower of both bands for quite sometime (Swans since the 80s, Neurosis since the 90s) and it's difficult to pick one over the other, so I went for Swans on the flip of a coin.

...erm, can I vote for Neurosis & Jarboe - their collaboration produced a stonking* album.

Neurosis are faves of mine (even seen 'em live, when they toured with Pantera!), but I haven't heard any Swans.  They're on my list of stuff to check out though.

It's Swans I've listened to the most, probably since their discography is much more varied. They're also like the number one influence on Neurosis, both their "punk in slow motion" beginnings and the more psychedelic beautiful later stuff.

I'd say Swans easily takes the cake. Nothing really can top Soundtracks for the Blind

In case you consider it relevant, Swans have also inspired more artists I like than Neurosis. I don't mind the latter's own music, but there's very few newer bands inspired by them I find worthwhile at all. (and out of them only Pelican that I really like)

Meanwhile, there's entire major genres and stylistic movements - not just within industrial/noise/neofolk - that would not have existed without Swans. At least not in the same shape as we know them.

Swans. Got into them about a month ago, amazing, The Seer is something truly special. Neurosis is great, but what they did was perfected by Isis, I can't see anyone emulating much less perfecting what Swans did.
