Wind and Wuthering gets the vote, one of their best, full stop.

Trick, Duke and ATTWT are also excellent imho.

Trick is more perfect--WandW suffers from Your own special way---and needed more guitar on One for the Vine--feel some of those lines could have been played on guitar rather than keys--but maybe Banks was trying to make a pointWink

With that option open, not much more to say.

I'm going to make it weird by being honest. In order:

1. Abacab
2. Duke
3. Trick
4. W&W

Although I think that Trick of the Tail is a great representation of the Gabriel-era (although with Collins on vox), Duke was where they proved they could do their own thing without Peter.  It's Duke for me.

Here's my logic:

"A Trick of the Tail" and "Wind and Wuthering" are fantastic albums, and the most progressive of this list.

But "Duke" gets my vote for redefining the band in a still-progressive way. I love it for the way it shows how synthesizers can rock.

I feel sorry for "And Then There Were Three," however. This is an album which eloquently sums up for me the end of the progressive rock era. It gives us three excellent musicians, doing their best with a form whose time is running out. And it has some of the most compelling melodies of the Genesis canon. It deserves some votes, too!

Some days I would go Wind and Wuthering, some days ABACAB.  Today is an ABACAB day.

I gave Invisible Touch another listen a few days back, for the first time in many years. It's just as bad as I remember it.

Initially I was going to make it so that you only had two choices: "trick" and "wind" but that would be even more boring than the way it is now.LOL

Agreed.  Though I still voted for W&W on the strength of "Blood on the Rooftops".  Besides, ATOTT has 2 songs I skip over (never was a fan of Squonk or the title track) whereas W&W only has 1 Wink

I haven't voted yet, couldn't really decide, so I'll give my vote to this underdog.  It's got a couple of songs I don't care for, but several of the songs are among my favorite Genesis from any era.

I dont particularly like any but I suppose I have to go with A Trick Of The Tail because it has the closest sound to the "classic" Genesis, with Steve Hackett still in there Stern Smile

For sure - and it was the first Genesis LP I bought way back in 1987, still love it to bits

It was the first Genesis album I had heard back around 1977 or '78. I was over at a friend's house when a mutual friend came over with it on vinyl and said we had to hear it.  The first Genesis album I ever bought was Duke.

Who knows, perhaps it could have been to polls, one with trick and wind, and the other with the Collins led albums...
