UK for me...I was extremely disappointed with Bruford's role in the new Crimso approach on Discipline (Fripp wanting a more "minimal" approach from BB and even dialing his own playing back from the soloing so prevalent in 70's Crimso to the "gamelan" arpeggio thing...)

Oh, difficult, difficult! I have to choose between the brilliant first Bruford album, and the brilliant first UK album? I like Discipline, but the other two albums are some of the best prog albums ever made, IMHO of course... Oh man... Okay, the first UK album, because there was a short equilibrium, balance, between four brilliant prog musicians... A real classic. But how I love Bruford's first as well...

I was thinking what if Bruford didn't rejoin Crimson in 1980 and kept the Bruford band going. It would have been interesting if he could have achieved some commercial popularity with it, like many, many instrumentalists did (Vangelis, Oldfield, Jarre, Kitaro, etc.). I too find it interesting that he said he lost his love for music. I think if you really love the music you're play, the love stays.

BB working in Crimso meant constant conflict between him and Fripp & I could see how that would wear him down over the years...but...didn't he spend the last few years doing Earthworks and playing the jazz that he always liked the best? Seems he still lost his love for music anyway...I hated reading his autobio, it was just so sad.

One of a Kind is easily one of the most under appreciated prog albums ever. The playing is beyond stellar but its a 'special zone' recording aptly titled, I guess! UK is very good and i also have reservations about this KC version , though Discipline is easily their crowning achievement. BB it is , then.

Discipline > One Of A Kind > UK. So, Discipline. He really was kicking ass on that one.

Nothing really tops the bouncy synth leads of the first two songs on the "One of a Kind" album. Can anyone else think of songs that have that kind of synth in the lead like that for most of the whole song?
