I wouldn't hesitate to recommend any DT album up through Awake, but I concur that from that point forward, "YMMV" should be upheld as a sort of disclaimer.

My friend, also a big Yes fan, turned to me and said "this is the worst music I've ever heard in my life!" and I yelled back "I agree!". Dream Theater suffers from a lot of masturbatory playing with no musicality behind it all. It's Prog done wrong.

Have you heard their Images and Words album? Masturbatory? Unhappy
Has he ever heard Yes? LOL

Well, one thing's for certain.  Dream Theater will never be on Howard Stern. Wink
Released date are often when it it impacted you but recorded dates are when it really happened...

I don't see how this is supposed to refute the claim at all

I should also note that whoever the lead singer for DT was when I saw them in 2004 was some long-haired blonde dude trying as hard as possible to sound like the most cliched heavy metal singer in musical history. Every vocal line had him holding the last note as high as possible with as much nasal vibrato as possible. DT was doing a good impression of Spinal Tap.

That's the same guy that's been with them since Images & Words. James Labrie had gone blonde at the time. Petrucci had cut his hair short.
