I wouldn't hesitate to recommend any DT album up through Awake, but I concur that from that point forward, "YMMV" should be upheld as a sort of disclaimer.

I should also note that whoever the lead singer for DT was when I saw them in 2004 was some long-haired blonde dude trying as hard as possible to sound like the most cliched heavy metal singer in musical history. Every vocal line had him holding the last note as high as possible with as much nasal vibrato as possible. DT was doing a good impression of Spinal Tap.

That's the same guy that's been with them since Images & Words. James Labrie had gone blonde at the time. Petrucci had cut his hair short.
