I'm a big fan of the 1979 Genesis.

The classic era with Gabriel was way better than the later more pop-based Genesis (even though they released a couple of good albums, such as Duke)

Easily early - Peter Gabriel, Steve Hackett, even Anthony Phillips, are three of my favorite artists. To hear them in one band, even in the earliest stages of their careers, is an unbridled pleasure.

A bit of a similar answer as with the Yes poll: I voted "early", but I love Duke and Three Sides Live, and I like the other albums until 1986 as well.

this would be more interesting if you split it between Gabriel and Hackett eras. As is the choice is so easy it's ridiculous

The early period of course.

i would classify this a bit differently - there would be the Gabriel period, then the quartet period (ATOTT and W&W) and then the trio years.

I think the "post Gabriel-Hackett" era would get a lot more votes than we'd expect - though not from me

I don't really agree with the options in terms of representing the different stages of genesis. I usually think of it as the Gabriel years, the Hackett years, the trio years, the pop years and calling allstations.
