A reissue, the internet says 1980. I can't imagine I could get a good quality original for 15 bucks.

Thumbs Up I definitely need more. I've heard a dozen or so but only have that and some Altlantic-era stuff on CD.

You can also check out the Steve Hoffman website, those guys are very critical of their vinyl versions, you can get insight on what versions are highly regarded for sound quality.
Thanks for the article. It's expensive and still not a perfect reissue Tongue
Can't a mono record be played with a stereo cartridge? My copy of Floyd's debut is mono and it plays normally Ermm

Sure it can, but to hear the beauty of mono a dedicated mono cartridge would be ideal.....If your amp or receiver has a mono/stereo switch, change to mono when listening to it.

I have zero desire to do that...but this would be sweet!! Shocked

Quite a few of my early albums are mono.
I also have several that were "electronically re-channeled for stereo".
Shortly after that stereo became the norm.

Ok, I never listened with mono cartridge, so I have no idea. My amp doesn't that a switch.

That's one weird looking TT LOL They could also put a third arm with a brush to clean the records Tongue

^ You could......that is a VPI-HRX, with one tonearm runs about $15,000.00, probably add another $1,200 for 2nd arm.
Cyber Monday, you could probably get it for $12,000.00 LOL

Being in the wood industry, I like these. Although in my teens I had a couple album display cases, I found the spine was getting beat up as I slid them in and out.....Cool idea!!

Thanks for sharing

Not sure if this one has been reissued as a remix, but it needs it...I could sure use a nice new pristine copy redone by SWilson Smile

^ True Thumbs Up I heard my copy a few weeks ago and it doesn't sound as bad as before, I guess the Pro-ject can get more sound out of a worned out LP Tongue

That's a good point.....I just upgraded my tonearm to the Pro-Ject 9cc which is like yours all carbon, the one before I had was carbon but with metal head shell. The bearings are better as well as the counter weight and wiring.
I also added a speed control box, the Cruise Control 2.0...That has been the biggest benefit, but both added together has elevated my analog deck a few notches.

The bass/low end is much more detailed, meaning I hear the actual plucking of bass strings, its more defined and forward. There are many songs I have been spinning that now have a nicer sound with the defined bass notes. Piano and sustained notes, like cymbals are much nicer sounding now, the TT held speed pretty good I think but the speed box has been a good addition, I checked it with a friends strobe disc and it is 33.33 dead on

Also the new tonearm has helped with surface noise on some of my older vinyl, it is much quieter, it's also brought out more of my cartridge.....It's been fun.

^ I have 8.6cc, but it's more similar to yours than with the one that comes with the Essential/Debut TT's. I agree, my copy of Trilogy didn't sound good on my old TT, because of the excessive surface noise.
How does a speed control box work?

I were right José, it sounds incredibly good, I played it through the speakers and I could imagine were every musician was, and played it quite loud, so it seemed like a live concert Tongue

I don't use the speakers much, they don't sound balanced no matter how I position them and it buzzes sometimes. So, I investigated and it didn't took long to understand:

One of the speakers is different... and smaller, it's not even correctly screwed. The one on the left has a much fatter bass than the original, so it always sounded different. The buzz is from the middle speakers, since the cones were pushed. I followed some DIY advices to pop them, but I did even worse on the left one. I think it's always Do Worse Yourself, in my case Ouch

^ Ooooo..yes they look pushed in, once that happens it's game over. You could buy new drivers and replace them. www.parts-express.com sells pretty good drivers but matching them to the cross overs in your current boxes might be an issue.

Save up and buy new ones is my suggestion. Right now there are some real good deals out there.....Once you are ready to buy, call and talk to them and ask for lower price.

The speed box is essentially an upgraded power supply unit. It replaces the wall wart that came with your TT, using quartz control technology it maintains very accurate speed. It works in 60Hz world, so it creates the 60Hz sine wave at 45rpm, and 44.3Hz at 33.33rpm so you leave the belt on the 45rpm pulley. Use the push button to change the speed....
It does have step up and down fine adjustment of 0.1rpm if you use a strobe disc and find it not perfect on 33.33 or 45.0..but it holds speed to 0.0001 accuracy. It's very cool if you play 45's, just press speed button, no need to change the belt.
