Not this time. Zombi are two guys from Pittsburgh who play instrumental, electronic, krautrock, space rock. But I am listening to some DSPGRw/DG while I'm typing (Samsara Blues Experiment).

The artwork/packaging of Shape Shift is fantastic, but I think it's one of their less inspired records. Surface to Air and Spirit Animal are much better places to start, in my opinion.

Spirit Animal is awesome !! There's some great bass parts on Shape Shift I think, but it's sometimes a bit too repetitive...
I just ordered a green pressing of Cosmos, I've never heard this one...

^ Yes, it's quite repetitive, especially side C: all three tracks seem to follow exactly the same formula. It could be a great single album though, if they had selected the best songs. On the other hand, Spirit Animal is a few minutes longer but has more variety.
I never heard Cosmos either. They were selling that one too if I'm not mistaken, but I only got these two and Escape Velocity on CD.

I would put Escape Velocity in the same group as Surface To Air and Spirit Animal. I'm partial to Surface To Air because it's the first album I bought by Zombi (and because it's one of their best).
I have Cosmos on "swamp green" vinyl (kind of a yellowish green) and after a few listens I'm very satisfied and especially like the second half of the album.

Received in mail last week......A great album, I need a few more spins to get the full breath of the recording. A smidge too much electronica for my tastes, but I can deal with it.
The production of this album is excellent, pressed at Optimal Media in Germany and mastered at Abbey Road Studios. With Optimal all you get is music, there is virtually no surface noise I detect, especially on Endless Ways, Lee Douglas's vocals are 3-dimensional and the sustain is great, a quiet song with no noise. |

Well, things have been a bit 'dry' on the vinyl front for myself - just ordered a 'blood-spattered' vinyl of SLAYER's Hell Awaits album (it really is an awesome Thrashy / Proto-Extreme album with, by these days' ideals, Proggy inflections) and I am waiting for the upcoming list from Syn Phonic. I see Tusmorke have a new album out, hopefully it gets a vinyl issue.

I was wondering if you knew French artist Catherine Ribeiro with the band Alpes here ?
I was thinking it could be interesting to trade records, Catherine Ribeiro for instance is probably quite hard to find outside France and as I have some spare copies, maybe it could interest someone ?

I have that particular Hell Awaits vinyl, and I will say that the song "Crypts of Eternity" is quite proggy for a Slayer tune. A couple of Suffocation buys: So the one on top is the brand new one and the lower one is their debut from 1991. It's kind of nuts how these guys can persevere playing brutal technical death metal without getting tired, stale or bored. That new album is their best in ages, but what's interesting is that now there are at least two band members in their 20's, playing with original members in their late 40's...guess that's how they keep fresh. It must be wild and weird to be in your 20's playing in a band consisting of the heroes of your youth, performing some of your favorite songs with the actual group.

Metal fans are nuts, and the labels know it. Seriously, labels like Nuclear Blast and Napalm Records release new albums by bands on their roster with like five different colored vinyl options these days (limited to 300 copies each or so) plus black. Especially death, thrash and symphonic metal. Not as much with black metal though...gotta keep it "trve" or whatever with the black vinyl option...colored stuff is too "trendy" and whatnot. ^^Suffocation are pretty wild and pummeling, but not at the expense of some catchiness in the complex yet mammoth riff department. Quite guttural growling vocals but effective with the monstrous music. Pierced From Within from 1995 is probably my favorite (which I have on purple vinyl), but I really dig those two I just bought as well.
