Get the debut first and then get everything else.  (I guess you could skip Merci, but even that has its defenders here).

The one with all the umlauted u's is slightly preferable to the rest IMO.

BTW, since you apparently have the studio MDK, I'm wondering if you have any live versions? I ask because the studio version does not do the music justice.

I have all these and again, very difficult for me to choose between the debut, and Udu Wudu. The debut blows me away end to end, Udu Wudu has De Futura............I'll vote for the absolutely charming debut

Attahk narrowly edging out the debut.  They are my 2 favourite Magma studio albums.

The other 4 I count among the weakest of their output, but still worth hearing.  (edit:  well, maybe E-Re isn't among their weakest)

Kobaia is my particular favourite Magma album, but I do love all of these (I am one of those Merci defenders).

I like the first Magma album.
When he rides, my fears subside.
For darkness turns once more to light.
Through the skies, his white horse flies.
To find a land beyond the night.

I say debut too. But you should know it's much more jazzy and pretty different from what came afterwards, It's closer to 1001 centigrades, so if you like that one than you won't have a problem with it. I think it's one of the strongest debuts out there by any band.

I have no live albums by Magma yet, but  I think I should.
The stetlist f and PA reception for Hhai and the Theusz Hamtaahk trilogy is quite encouraging.
Actually, I've seen some outstanding live videos by Magma on YouTube before having anything by them.
Too bad that they are very unlikely to perform in my town.

I always feel a bit sad with this joke because even if Merci is obviously not their best album, it's far too be bad one. Vander said poeple who really didn't like this album didn't understand his music. Indeed Merci looks more dated but it has also another direction which comes close to Offering. This is probably why people recognize less Magma.

Emehntehtt-Ré and Kobaïa are my favourites Smile.

Got to go for Udu Wudu.Wink For De Futura alone.

Btw in my local record shop there is a 3 CD trilogy (Udu WIdi, Attakh and Live). I wonder how much longer it will remain. I think I am one of the few people in this city who have any idea about Magma. Anyway, of course I have the albums involved.

'Merci' is just a rather uneven album from Magma - it mixes Zeuhl with Funk, Euro-Disco and New Wave. An interesting take for the early 80's. The track 'Eliphas Levi' is as relevant and top-notch as most of their 70's output. It's not that bad an album.

I have Üdü Wüdü, Attahk and Emehntehtt-Ré from these. All great albums but Üdü Wüdü is the one I love the most.
