Deandob, you asked me to offer up a few melodic prog recommendations on the Progressive Ears forum, so I'm chiming in... Frankly, I"m not sure I have much to add. You've covered the vast majority of the bands I'd recommend (and some, like a number of the Polish prog bands listed above, I've never heard of, but will be checking out).

For what it's worth, I haven't seen the following mentioned:

  • Ark, Burn the Sun: metal vocalist, Jorn Lande's progressive rock/metal project. Is smooth metal a category?
  • Earth, Angels of Darkness, Demons of Light (parts 1 & 2): I'm not sure this will be considered prog as it's typically described as slowcore or dirge metal, but this instrumental group incorporates a lot of influences, including a fair amount of jazz.
  • The Flower Kings, Desolation Rose: Genesis-style prog with a good mix of balladry and uptempo tunes.
  • In the Silence, A Fair Dream Gone Mad: a bit samey in places, but a great atmospheric listen. Borders on progressive metal in spots (a' la late-era Porcupine Tree).
  • Riverside, Second Life Syndrome: on some days, my favorite neo-prog or melodic prog band.
  • Transatlantic, S/T or The Whirlwind: fantastic mix of Kansas-Floyd-latter-day Marillion.
In any event, thanks for directing me to this thread. I'll be checking in on occasion to see what's new.

^FWIW, Earth are on this site under Experimental/Post Metal.
I have both parts of AoDDoL (and nothing else from them).  I have kind of a love/hate relationship with those albums.  They are both "interesting" and "boring".  Still, worthy if I'm in the right mood.  Kind of a drone metal version of TD's Zeit.

Thanks Project Nightscape for sharing. Earth are interesting, more like post-rock.

In the silence, I love the first song on the album A Fair Dream Gone Mad, it rocks! The rest of the album is good as well.

If you like Riverside, do check out some of the other Polish bands I've posted about earlier in this thread. Poland must have a really active prog rock scene, so many good bands. I can particularly recommend Votum, here is a track from their previous album Harvest Moon.

Another discovery and an album I have been enjoying over the weekend - Thence, from their second album released last week, We Are Left With A Song. Great modern atmospheric prog bordering on post rock with vocals. Not a bad song on this album, definitely recommended if you like the tracks I've been posting in this thread.

There is such a variety of good new prog music around, I keep thinking I have exhausted finding all the new talent then a band / album like this comes along. No need to spend time listening to prog from the 70's.... Smile

I appreciate the recommendations. I've listened to Votum over the past couple of days via Spotify and really enjoy the band's use of distinctive textures in each song without losing a sense of structure and melody.

I've been digging The Tirith's 2015 release Tales from the Tower and recommend it to anyone with a taste for prog that explores hard rock tropes and textures to great effect. There are elements of Dio-era Rainbow, Pink Floyd, Eloy and Kansas to be found here. While the compositions could be more adventurous/challenging, this is a pleasantly cohesive debut. I look forward to hearing more from this group.

Skyharbor, from New Delhi India with their upcoming LP. In a similar vein to Tesseract, Karnivool but not as heavy.

A bit heavier now (with growling but very catchy). Ghost Brigade from last year's album IV - One for the Storm

OK ! It is a pleasure to share good music. Smile

In one of your previous posts, you mentioned some polish bands. You should listen to Abraxas. It was neo-progressive/hard rock.
