Hey guys,

I was looking to suggest a female fronted German band from the mid 90’s, TALIESYN, who recorded one album in 1996 called `When Silence Will Be Unbearable’, that was released back then on the Music Is Intelligence label. It’s quite difficult to come across these days, but I think they definitely have a place on the Archives.

Their music is heavy prog rock, although not heavy enough to be considered metal to my ears, with very Neo Prog-styled keyboards over a lot of the compositions. But Heavy Prog is my gut reaction. The production sound is a little rough, but singer Jennifer had an interesting style that swapped between gutsy and heartfelt.

The band was comprised of:

- Jennifer Holzschneider / vocals
- Matthias Hellmold / guitars
- Michael Haarhaus / bass
- Rudiger Blank / keyboards
- Markus Hinzmann / drums

The album track-listing was as follows:

1. Sad Reality (7:18)
2. Silence Burns Under Skin (3:37)
3. What The Moon Brings (3:24)
4. Rush Hour (instrumental) (5:11)
5. Moving Mania (5:02)
6. Way of Insight (4:28)
7. Irresistible Recurrence (6:45)
8. King of Dreamlands (9:03)

Sadly, there is very little about the band on the internet, and so far some attempts I’ve made to potentially contact any of the members has been a bit of a dead-end!

Thanks to David (Yam Yam), who not only tracked down a copy of the album for himself (good man, hope you enjoy it!), but has kindly uploaded two of the tracks to Youtube:

1. Sad Reality

8. King of Dreamlands:

The band is also currently listed on the Metal Archives site here – http://www.metal-archives.com/bands/Taliesyn/1969

To any team that decides to evaluate them, please contact me by private message if you would like me to send you the full album via Sendspace.

Should they be considered, I could also likely provide a quick bio for them (there is so little info on them so far, though), and could easily whip up a review for the album too. I’ve had it since it came out, so I’m plenty familiar with it!

Thanks for your time!

(and thanks again for all your help and interest David!)

Michael.

Thanos added this band to the metal charts on progfreak a few months ago (http://progfreak.com/Taliesyn-157347.html?path=pa/recent) after finding that they were classified as Progressive Metal on MMA: http://www.metalmusicarchives.com/artist/taliesyn.  He will move them to a more appropriate sub when he discovers that there probably isn't a single scrap of true metal on the entire album... Shocked

Apparently there was also a self-released demo tape in 1995, containing five of the eight songs that made it onto the finished album.

As well as on MMA, info about this release can be found at:

The Quest Of...
1. What the moon brings (3:20)
2. Kings of dreamland (9:07)
3. Moving mania (5:00)
4. Sad reality (7:15)
5. Rush hour (5:11)
6. Silence burns under skin (3:31)

Total Time 33:24

Same band line-up as the full album. Smile

Edit: Keyboard player Rüdiger Blank went on to join German Prog metal band Payne's Gray after Taliesyn disbanded.

Matthias Hellmold went on to become a sound engineer. He worked with the German alternative/indie rock band Morain: http://morain.bandcamp.com/album/morain. He was also a member of a band called Flam-b, where he played guitar, and a covers band called Nena, where as well as taking care of recording and mixing duties, he also played bass, being known to the other members simply as 'Matschek': http://www.nena-coverband.de/band/matthias-hellmold-bassist/.

A note about the spelling of the band name: The artwork on the cover of both the demo tape and the full album clearly show the band name as 'Taliesin', but inside the booklet and on the CD tray inlay, the text version most definitely reads 'Taliesyn'. Confused

That's some might fine sleuthing, David!

Yes, I noticed that frustrating little spelling mistake as well!

Sounds like an absolute gem, similar to Cromwell's Burning Banners (psarros anywhere?)

I think Olav suggested them to the metal team, my feeling is heavy Neo, similar to the above band. This is where my move vote goes, let's see what the other chaps will say.

Thanks Michael and David for a great suggestion

My pleasure, Athanasios! And Dave's too, I'm sure!

Ha! I knew I wasn't imagining the Neo sound!

Please contact if you need any more info, I have the CD right here on my computer desk

Thanos is absolutely right, very similar to Cromwell, the female singer is not as good though and the music is slightly heavier.

You can get it direct from musea.com: http://www.musearecords.com/ext_re_new_catselect.php?np=2808

The price is quite similar from all three sources (around 15 euros, or GBP13.50 excluding postage for a new or 'like new' copy). Thumbs Up

Just one sample on YouTube, it seems:

Thanks to the Neo team for deciding on this band and getting them added, and for David's help in getting those Youtube clips done, along with some extra research!

I just added a pretty generous review too!

Cheers all!
