Nico!!

Yeah, right when RHR is back in it, gone blown it again.
Crazy to see Helio take the lead! I'm sure we all would love to see him finally get a title.
Big congrats for Bourdais

A couple of interesting articles regarding yesterday's no SC call in the German GP.  And I, too, thought of the '77 South African GP.

Yeah, I was very surprised they didn't call the SC for Sutil's spin, what was the difference between that and Glock's crash in 2008? Both incidents had a car left in the middle of the track and marshals trying to clear it.

Tonight the NASCAR trucks are back in Eldora for the Mudsummer Classic.  I was a little skeptical last year of how the trucks would be on the dirt (thinking it was a bit of a gimmick), but it was a ton of fun to watch and I expect tonight to be no different.  With guys coming from dirt backgrounds and others that have little to no experience on dirt, it makes for a pretty interesting race.  Like last year, this race is done with the typical "local short track" style with five heat races and a B Main to determine the 30 truck starting grid for the main race.  Along with the truck regulars, Cup drivers Kyle Larson and Austin Dillon (last year's winner) are entered for tonight, as well as Ken Schrader.

This was indeed quite a race! I missed last years but I quite enjoyed it this year and hopefully they will keep this "tradition" for many years to come.

Hamilton just can't get a break these days, car goes up in flames before he can set his first time of the session. I gather even the monocoque was burnt which means they'll have to effectively build up a new car for him to start from the pitlane tomorrow. Vettel looks on it this weekend, briefly even looked like he would challenge for poll before Merc turned up the wick, Magnussen will also have to start from the pit lane after he crashed at turn 1 when it rained and Kimi is really pissed that Ferrari screwed up the strategy which meant he couldn't set a proper time on soft tyres and that Bianchi actually out qualified him!

I want Nico to win the championship between the two Mercedes drivers, but I kind of feel for Lewis and all of these mechanical issues happening during qualifying, especially since he's not at fault.  Same with Kimi.  HE really can't catch a break.  Happy to see Jenson qualified a respectable 7th.

What a race. Ricciardo wins, 3 way fight for the win and Hamilton goes from the pit lane to the podium. Vettel was a really lucky boy today, I can't believe he spun exiting the last corner and just missed crashing into the concrete pit wall like Perez did.

A 1 month break now before Spa. I'm really looking forward to the next two races, with their straight line speed advantage I'm expecting Williams to really take the fight to Merc at Spa and Monza.

Excellent race this morning.  Still a little confused as to why McLaren decided to gamble with intermediates during the first SC when EVERYONE else went with dries, but I guess they figured it was worth the gamble if it meant a possible podium.  Great three way battle at the end, though, and really awesome to see Ricciardo get his second win of the season and his career, while the battle between Hamilton and Rosberg on the last lap was pretty intense.  It should be a bit of a relief for Nico that his point lead was only shortened to 11 points.

And boom!  Jeff Gordon wins at the Brickyard for a record fifth time and for his 90th career win!  Great day! Big smileBig smileBig smile

Late response but that was quite a race indeed. Epic results, glad to see Fernando finish in 2nd.

I have been pulling for Nico this season and while at first I thought it wishful, now I'm thinking it's actually entirely possible!

I'm the only one here routing for Lewis then! He just needs a clean run without something breaking on him, without the mechanical failures he's had he'd be well ahead in the championship by now.

As discussed before, I used to like the guy, but he just seems to be such a t**t now. I did always like Nico as well.

Rough start for Helio at Mid Ohio. Some type of issue on pit lane and couldn't get the car started. Is now 4 laps down. Can pick up positions over the race but this will be a hit, hope this isn't another 2013 where it slips away right at the end...

Dale Jr leading at Pocono with 8 laps to go. Really having quite a solid year, and he used to suck at this place (well he sucked everywhere for a while) so this is cool!
Shame things never did work out for him, but would love to see him grab this win.
Edit: Woo! Came close, but there it is! Third win of the year (hasn't happened since 2004!?) and puts him in great position. I thought for sure would be a champ, then wondered if he even was cut out for NASCAR, but maybe he can still get that first title yet!

Jr. is strong this year and should be strong in the Chase, too.  I'll put money on Gordon, though.  Literally every track they go to, he's battling for a win.  It's like a repeat of 2007 (statistically, Gordon's best year).

Helio is going to end up throwing away another championship shot this year.  So aggravating.  Plus, it doesn't help that Dixon is leading late in the race. Angry

Wow Dixon out of nowhere! Last to first, taking his 5th win at Mid Ohio.

Because of the double points at Fontana (something I really do not like) Helio is far from in trouble, nor is he safe at all. Guys like Montoya and Dixon can't even be ruled out...
Really that race will make or break the title for someone.

Yeah I forgot about that year Gordon had one of the best years ever, but lost to Johnson due to the Chase....well no point to keep griping about it now lol but I really did hate that change as well.
Oh well...

Oh! Congrats to Bourdais with his 2nd place finish, and Hinch rounding out the podium. Despite a penalty and a spin RHR managed 10th, though I think he was a realistic threat to win. Guy also has trouble shooting himself in the foot, I'm still mad over Long BeachLOL

I actually am not sure, I did miss part of it...but wouldn't surprise me. You're right he's been pretty poor in that regard.

I've always liked Nico and for so long being "the best of the rest" it's nice to see him succeed. Who knows how many more chances he'll get ata world title, so I would certainly like to see him nab this one when he can.

Indeed. Right now Gordon looks like the one to beat. Thogh Jr. is making quite a nice push, and if he can parley this victory into more positive momentum who knows what can happen...especially with the new points system.

Can't ever count out JJ as well...a lot tracks in the chase are his strong suit.

And yes...shame about Helio. Maybe one day...
