Ahh Art Zoyd. An album that seems to fly under the radar...but it will get my vote here.
Dig me...But don't...Bury me
I'm running still, I shall until, one day, I hope that I'll arrive

I only know the Santana/McLaughlin album but it doesn't really blow my mind.
I have a different Helmet Of Gnats album, don't know this one, so I guess no vote.

Oh no, I have to turn my back on a beloved modern RPI title of mine here! What will the gang say?!

But the `Helmet of Gnats' one is an instrumental stunner, one of my favourites from a little while back. I finally picked up a second hand CD of it earler this year, I was shaking while I was holding it!

As for the Santana/Mclaughlin one....I've got it, but never really listened to it. I bought a recent Santana 5 disc box set, and this was one of the titles in it. Think I only listened to the first track, and with both of them playing back and forth, I kind of thought it came across like a pissing contest!

If you guys think it's good, I promise I'll dig it out and give it a proper listen!

I only have the first two albums listed, and between them there's no real contest: Art Zoyd for me.
I remember being one of the only disappointed reviewers of that RPI recordEmbarrassed

Also: Helmut of Gnats?LOL

Listening to this right now, this is really a special album and in my opinion the best the band has released so far.

Oh man your name is mud now Michael.LOL Hey at least the Italians are winning even without your help.
Funny your opinion of that McLaughlin Santana album because initially I gave it 3 stars feeling somewhat the same as you that these guys were trying to one-up each other. I mentioned this in a thread some time ago where I seemed to be in the mnority with these feeling so I went back to it with a different attitude and eventually bumped it to 4 stars. Still I can understand people who feel there's too much w**kery going on. I've grown to appreciate the talent here.
