Another edition of Gouveia Art Rock is on the horizon. First confirmation is Three Friends, a repeat. I'm often not too fond of repeat act in a short span of time, but their show three years ago was great and will be great to see them again.

Not all is good news. It's sad to see that the festival has apparently missed the opportunity to book Camel, Arena or IQ, all of which will play in Portugal close to the festival's date. Especially disappoiting to know that Portuguese legend José Cid, who recently announced a live presentation of his 1978 album, will not take part, as his so far only concert is set for April 11th.

I can't decide if I should see Camel or José Cid. It would be great if they would join them in Gouveia Art Rock specially because it's closer to me.

Indeed, Carl Palmer's ELP Legacy (Carl Palmer and two guitarrists play ELP classics) has just been added to the line-up. So far it's the first non-repeat act to tickle my fancy (always thought the best moment in ELP's music was the guitar solo in Tarkus, so this should be a treat).

Yet another return to the festival, this time by Gatto Marte. Those festival organisers sure are running out of ideas. Or money.

How is repeating some acts representive of lack of money from their part?

That is pure speculation on my part, since I am in no way affiliated with the festival nor have I ever been part of a similar enterprise. But I can only assume that artists like Gatto Marte, who already played the festival and also enjoyed it as spectators, travel light, and have the option to combine travelling arrangements with fellow countrymen, might facilitate and charge a little less for their booking.

Something a little different: Turkish pianist AyseDeniz Gokcin playing Pink Floyd.

Royal Hunt will be performing live at Corporation Sheffield on Thursday 6th March with support from Swedish Progressive metal outfit Cloudscape.

Royal Hunt is a progressive metal band based in Denmark, founded in 1989 by keyboardist Andre Andersen. The band is known for creating melodic music with a progressive and symphonic flair. They made a huge success during mid-90s with vocalist D.C. Cooper on their classic albums Moving Target and Paradox mainly in Japan and Europe. They have experienced several lineup changes throughout their history, in 2007 they acquired singer Mark Boals, who replaced former vocalist John West. In 2011 after numerous requests from fans and promoters worldwide they decided to reunite with their former vocalist D. C. Cooper for a special tour, covering the first four albums of the band. They have since recorded a new album entitled Show Me How to Live featuring the returning D.C. Cooper as their permanent vocalist moving forward. They have sold more than 1 million albums worldwide.

Another entry: Fadomorse, a Portuguese band mixing traditional music with "modern urban sounds", whatever that means.

So far, it's definitely the least interesting edition I can remember. If they don't bring in a decent headliner (or some interesting second tier band), I'll be giving it a skip this year.

Saw these in January. The highlight of the set was the bass guitarists solo rendition of Bohemian Rhapsody. Simply Stunning!
