Looks like this was originally released as a CD-R in 2009 with different cover art: http://rateyourmusic.com/release/album/landerim/shallow_draw/. Can't hear this as Eclectic Prog tbf, and I'd be surprised if it got accepted in Crossover too. Sounds like dream pop to me in the main, with a lot of short atmospheric pieces (only one song goes over the four minute mark). This review on The Sound Of Confusion blogspot seems to sum it up pretty well: http://thesoundofconfusionblog.blogspot.co.uk/2013/08/landerim-shallow-draw.html. Where on earth did they get the 'hard rock' tag from on bandcamp?

Lol yea but It's actually one of Magnetic Eye Records' Bandcamp pages where the tags would to describe all their artists who are mostly hard & stoner rock. That's ok, but in this case they forget to put that Canterbury tag; imho, the band is closest to Canterbury aesthetic Smile

Yam Yam thank you for RYM link; also thank you for The Sound of Confusion link, although I disagree that the band is a pop only. There are "too much" of 70s prog influences.

- different MER bandcamp album pages have different tags, ergo these tags are for this album.

And as for Canterbury....

..and while I actually couldn't give a flying fart... what the hell is Albany? Bandcamp tags the following as "Albany": classical, new age, hip-hop, alt-folk, hard rock, indie-rock, stoner and doom.

I promised myself that after stepping down as an Admin here I wouldn't let this kind of nonsense get to me, but honestly suggesting this kind of dream pop alt rock for any Prog genre is demeaning the value and ethos of the Progressive Archives and it really has to STOP.

I'm glad I'd stumbled upon this when googling. Those genre tags are not correct for Landerim and I had not realized that the general tags trump album specific tags on Bandcamp.

The original Landerim tags were "indie, psychedelic pop, dream pop, psychedelic rock, indie pop, psychedelic" and thanks to this thread I've now corrected the issue.

Landerim on a Prog Rock forum, that I don't get... Now if Shallow Draw sounded a bit like "Larks' Tongues in Aspic" well then.... You know, when I managed a Tower Records for a brief while I truly came to realize that classifying music into the latest popular genres and sub-genres really was not of much interest to me.

I really struggle with the classification aspect - I either love the piece of music or it does not resonant with me. With that said, I do think most King Crimson albums fall into the Prog Rock category...although Discipline, my favorite KC would be Prog Rock with hints of World and hints of Sci-Fi. I think.

Well, not sure what's defined by 'progressive' on this forum. However, a song like "Shallow Draw" with an ascending key-change 10-bar verse, married with a 5-bar chorus...on beats that aren't up on the back of the bar. Well, if it's not 'progressive' it's sophisticated in the 'Bacharach' sense...

Something like "Little Boy Crystal" isn't exactly an easy form to work out either. Suppose it depends what your definition of 'prog' is. In the '70s it was much more broad - though inclusive - than just Crimson/Genesis/Yes/ELP and their various neo-iterations...
