Fifth has a current rating here of 3.31
Seven is currently at 3.59
Which do you like more?
I'd go with Seven

wow, almost too close to call.  5 is more of a chill out album, and 7 is more of a driving album.  I think I'll go with 5.

Good poll !! Love both, but 'Fifth' has a dark atmosphere I can't get enough of.

You know what, I haven't actually listened to either for a looooooong time. Odd seeing as I just last summer bought 5 on vinylConfused
I will have to get back to you on this, 7 I don't even rememberEmbarrassed
Then again, I've been juiced up by Vol 1 and 2 the last couple of years - to the point of being obsessive about it. Haven't seen any reason to go beyond that, which means that I'm only now starting to dip my toes in some of the other Softs records I've got. 3 and 'Softs' are currently in rotation back at the den - I'll have to see if I've remembered to transfer both albums over to my transportable harddisk, which is all I have at the moment (yep chillin with the ol folks - far away from my collection).

Haven't heard neither of them.
I've only heard vol. 1, vol. 2, Third and Bundles.
So there's some great Softs music after Wyatt and before Holdsworth?

This is so strange........I bought SM 6 in the late-80's, and, to this day, it's my least spun album from them. Apart from a small portion of the live material, 'Chloe And The Pirates', and Hopper's '1983', it is just a bit 'plain' for my liking......

Good albums, both, IMO. Seven gets the nod, but it's not much between them for me.

So I listened to both and have come to the conclusion that I definitely need to branch out in my Soft Machine collectionLOL I really dig both actually and have no clue of which to vote for. Seven is perhaps the "easiest to get into", and I say that fairly tongue-in-cheek, whereas Fifth s'got a certain wildness and cacophonous spilonking about it.
No vote yetTongue

......but thanks for reminding me of these, much appreciated!
