What is the seventies, German, Symphonic Prog band Wallenstein's best progressive record? In this poll, I have included all of their records from the debut Blitzkrieg in 1971, to their last progressive recording No More Love in 1977. After that, comes the pop rock period starting with Charline in 1978, a great album, but the band had lost their previous prog aspect completely.
This is a hard choice for me, as I really admire all the records in this poll, but in the end, I choose Blitzkrieg. It is the most instrumental, and the most cerebral and intelligently crafted of theirs.
It has stood the test of time for me very well, as I still admire it as much as I did years ago.
What is their best classic prog album for you?

Cosmic Century knocks me sox off !!
Sorry Presdoug, No More Love is good, but weaker than CC.
I could never get into Charline so I don't have any albums after that.

I went with `Blitzkreig' as well, Doug, for all the reasons you stated.

I've also got `Stories, Songs and Symphonies', which is occasionally great, always nice, but just a little bit forgettable and bland in a few spots for me.

I do have both of them in the car right now though!

Hmmm Blitzkrieg just edges it, but that's possibly down to it's, admittedly, vague connotations it shares with Krautrock......but it was damn close though. I really really dig Cosmic Century too! Has a combination of symph and psych that marries well together, maybe not entirely unlike Grobschnitt.

It's between Blitzkreig and Cosmic Century but I went with the debut. How about the American playing guitar on that one, yeah he's pretty good and i'm a huge fan of keyboardist Jurgen Dollase who along with the drummer here Harald Groskopf would play for the Cosmic Jokers among others. Great band !

Just for the record (ha), my ultra fave Wallenstein composition is 'Silver Arms'', from Cosmic Century.
They were a really great band until they took a more commercial path, though they apparently toured with The Scorpions through this phase.

Tom, I forgot I even HAD `Cosmic Century' until a few days! I was cleaning up my back room and arrnaging my vinyl, and came across it between some other albums, I was like, `Son of a b*tch...'

I only have Blitzkrieg which is good but can also give me a headache sometimes, I never thought of exploring further more.

Arrnaging is something new to me (ha ha).
I fell in love with CC the first time I heard it - some straight-forward 'rock' moments don't hurt the album either.
I just attempted to play along with the bass of Martin Turner on Wishbone S/T with mixed results - Lady Whiskey and Errorors Of My Way being somewhat successful !!! Anyway, I have the copy of Blitzkrieg called 'Lunatics' - Aussie pressing - you might have the same ?? It is a fully respectable album I adore, as is Mother Universe, though when dear old Jerry Berkers takes to the mic, it irks me somewhat...
Ideas were running thin by Stories, Songs & No More Love.....
Still love Holderlin more.......

Damn, I looked at my spelling mistake and thought `Meh, they'll know what I'm talking about!'

Yes, of course I have that same `Lunatics' pressing with the purple and black cover, but it's in vile condition (the sleeve, not the LP), it's got this kind of film or plastic on the front that is peeling!

Anyway, I'm off to do some more arrnaging!
