MLB year 2014 gets under way on Sunday Dodgers versus Padres (not including Dodgers vs Diamondbacks played in Australia last week).  Go Tigers!!!!

Miggy signs an 8-year $248 million extension.  I guess my ticket prices are going up again next year.  Cry  I guess watching Miggy is worth the price of admission, but honestly did anybody learn anything from watching what happened with A-Rod in New York?

I know Cabrera is awesome but what is essentially $352 million for 12 years( 2 years left on contract,8 years for $248 mil and 2 years vesting options in the extension) is crazy, especially because he is 30.You Tigers fans think he will be the same hitter at 40? You all made a very expensive mistake that wil bite you in the ass down the road. We(the Orioles)just finished paying off Albert BellAngry,we learned our lesson.

Suppose I'll attempt to predict the future:
AL EAST
Tampa Bay 91-72
The Hated Dead Sox 90-73 - I have no idea how they do it with an iffy rotation and a 90 yr old DH as their main offense but they always do. Maybe it's voodoo.
The Beloved NY Yankees 88-75
Baltimore *yawn* Orioles 85-78
Toronto 72-90

AL CENTRAL
Detroit 95-67
Cleveland 86-76
KC 85-77
Chicago Sox 80-82
Minnesota 69-93

AL WEST
Tejas 92-70
Oakland 91-71
LAA 80-82
Seattle 72-90
Houston 50-112

NL EAST
Washington 93-69
Atlanta 88-74
Philthydelphia 79-83
NY Mets 75-87
Miami 70-92

NL CENTRAL
Cincy 92-70
St. Louis 91-71
Pittsburgh 81-81 - new slide begins
Milwaukee 79-83
Chicago Cubs 65-97

NL WEST
LAD 94-68
Arizona 84-78
San Fran 82-80
Carmen San Diego 73-89
Colorado 69-93

Hopefully this leads to a Dodgers vs. Detroit World Series though I'm fairly sure Detroit will do something stupid and let Boston in again.

AL MVP - Miguel Cabrera
NL MVP - Bryce Harper

AL CY YOUNG - Yu Darvish
NL CY YOUNG - Adam Wainwright

AL ROY - Nick Castellanos
NL ROY - Billy Hamilton

AL MANAGER - Bob Melvin
NL MANAGER - Don Mattingly

AL West prediction is

What's wrong with it? Didn't seem like one of the harder ones to predict.

It was a beautiful day in the D yesterday.  It made it to the high 50's/low 60's which is somewhat amazing given it snowed just the week before.  Even got some sunburn on my hands and face.  The icing on the cake was the Tigers winning in the bottom of the 9th with a walk-off single by last minute replacement shortstop Alex Gonzalez.  Not sure how much production we are going to get out of this guy this year, but he definitely started his Tiger career off on the right foot.

Like I've always said....people hate on the Yanks and the $ (for reasons I understand) but "If you're team had the ability they'd do it in a heartbeat" is what I've and in recent years more and more are doing so.
So suck it :D

Oh, and have fun with that contract in 4-6 years...

I'm actually excited for this season, for the first time in years. Partly because A Rod "the human waste dump" is suspended for this yearSmile but also there's so many question marks!
Will CC bounce back/transform? Will Kuroda bounce back? How will Nova and Pineda do well as we expect? What about the total mystery of Tanaka?  Jeter, Tex, the lack of Cano and Granderson, no more Mo.
They have gotten decent replacements though, (there will be a hole still to fill in future years) so it all depends on how those question marks turn out. Can be a solid year, or a horrible ass one.

Let it begin

Owner Mike Ilitch probably isn't going to be around much longer, he can't take it with him, and he really wants to win the World Series before he dies.   I am glad that they were able to keep Cabrera, but admittedly not thrilled with the length and the amount of the contract.  (1) It is because of the Yankees that teams spend as much as they do in order to be able to keep up with them. (2) Aside from Fielder, who is now traded, the Tigers do not have a reputation for spending big bucks to buy other teams best players off of the free agent market.  (3) The Tigers backups and injury replacements are young kids and washed up never-has-beens.  The Yankees backups are generally Hall of Fame caliber has-beens.  The Yankees are still the evil empire and A-Rod is the face of evil.  Evil Smile  I, for one, certainly have no interest in stopping my hatred of this evil team.

My predictions! I'm sure half of these will end up being wrong.

NL:
Dodgers
Cards
Nats

NL Wild Cards:
Pirates
Braves

AL:
A's
Tigers
Rays

AL Wild Cards:
Red Sox
Rangers

WS:
Dodgers over Tigers

AL Awards:
MVP: Cabrera (I still think it should have been Trout last year, and probably should end up being him this year too. But the voters like shiny objects and shiny offensive stats over all-around best performance sooooo...)

Cy Young: Chris Sale (Laugh now, but I think he gets his ERA to 2.50 or below and his strikeout to walk rate is dramatically improving. Plus voters have looked past meaningless stats like a pitcher's win total for this one before.)

AL Rookie of the Year: Toss-up between Ventura and Tanaka. Slightly leaning towards Tanaka here.

NL Awards:
MVP: Harper

Cy Young: Kershaw

Rookie of the Year: Hamilton or Bradley. Depends on if Hamilton steals 100+ bases this season IMO.

They lost Parker for the season, sure. But hopefully A.J. Griffin will be back soon for their sake. Not to mention the Rangers and Angels have plenty of issues with their starting rotations as well. Honestly, if the pitching improves enough for all 3 (I think there's a good chance it will), I think the AL West will be a 3-team race for most of the season. And I think at least 2 of those 3 make the playoffs. If I had to pick one to leave out right now though, I'd probably go with the Angels.

There are two decent teams in the AL West, one giant money pit, and two teams that are never worth mentioning.

Where's Jody?  Tigers 10 Orioles 4.   Clap  I couldn't go today and won't be able to go tomorrow, but I am planning on going on Sunday to see Verlander pitch again.

I have mixed feeling about the Reds this season. I'm excited to see what Price can do at the helm, but I'm also unsure if our current crop of players will get better or worse from last season. Considering we made no major moves (and lost Choo, Arroyo, and Hanigan), then we will probably be expecting improvements from everyone from last season.
