So I heard that Alan Parsons decided to release The Sicilian Defense on a recent APP boxset. I heard some samples on Allmusic and, judging by them, I have to concur with the man that the bulk of the music was sort of "meh" and doesn't hold up well in comparison to the 1976 - 1982 albums.

However, the timeline when it was made bugs me. According to this interview...

...Parsons said that it was made around the same time as Eve and given to the higher ups in Arista along with it in an attempt to renegotiate their contact. However, according to this article...

...it suggests that Parsons and Eric Woolfson submitted the Sicilian Defense around March of 1981. Assuming Parsons got his dates mixed up, either the album was actually recorded during of after the sessions for The Turn Of A Friendly Card, or it was cobbled together from bits and scraps from Eve and Card and given to the suits. Alternatively, the March date was really in 1980, which implies the album was made during the Card sessions and was Parsons and Woolfson's way to telling the suits to get off their back. If, however, Parson's recollection was accurate, the incident was later used to try to get out of their contract.

But that's just me. Maybe I'm looking into too much from an album that was basically a throwaway.
