Hey I love Christian Lucifer! beautiful and charming album which gets me in a calm state of mind so easily.
It's very different than Comus but equally enjoyable, Hmmmmmmm.... I don't know... |

Well, I'm giving Perry Leopold some Christian Luciferian love. Comus' FU is fantastic (have said before that I thought it should be the top ranked album in PA), and that Spirogyra is a wonderful album, but I have become terribly infatuated all over again with Christian Lucifer over the last couple of months.

Christian Lucifer is good, but I didn't quite enjoy it as much as I do First Utterance. Perhaps it will grow on me. Comus gets my vote for now, though. (Also, what are your thoughts on Mice and Rats in the Loft, Logan/Greg?)

I love Mice and Rats in the Loft, especially for Sun Symphonica. I pondered having that in the poll, but wanted to stick with three and am slightly more into these three albums these days. Jan Dukes de Grey, Comus and Spirogyra are my traditional faves in Prog Folk and I associate them really strongly. Great acid folk.
I just did a search cause I know I've done a few polls with Jan Dukes de Grey over the last few years and I had forgotten I did this long tracks poll a few months ago. http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=96357 Edited by Logan - April 30 2014 at 16:30 |

Sun Symphonica is a really great track. Sorcerers was a charming album too. No comment on Strange Terrain.
I like Spirogyra except for the lyrics. Even Comus' and JDdG's lyrics aren't that poetic but serve the aesthetic in interesting ways (to me) in a way that (to me) Spirogyra doesn't. A favorite of mine in the sub that doesn't get much credit is Spires That In The Sunset Rise. Very odd, dark, and witchy. Kind of like This Heat meets Comus. To be fair, they're not completely folk, though.

That Perry Leopold album is one I heard many years ago at university and absolutely loved, but I'd long forgotten what it was called and I've been searching in vain to identify it for 20 years. Thanks for putting this poll up - it means that I now know its title and can add it to my collection at last.
I don't like Spirogyra very much and my thoughts on First Utterance are well known.

Never heard Spires That in the Sunset Rise, or know of it that I remember -- as I love This Heat and Comus, as well as very odd, dark and witchy, I'm definitely going to look for it. Thanks!
So glad to hear that this poll helped you to re-discover the Perry Leopold album. Hopefully when you get to hear it all over again it will stand the test of time for you. I just love the album. About Comus, I know your thoughts and I can understand why many would be put off by the album, and I understand that what can give me thrills and chills can give others ills and, erm, shrills, but man, I think The Herald to be one of the most hauntingly beautiful songs I know -- beautiful instrumentation and I so wish I could play it on guitar. The Herald is what hooked me with the album, the rest had to grow on me a bit. Some of the FU lyrics still sometimes put me off. |

I'm much more familiar with First Utterance than the other two, but they are all definitely great albums so I voted "can't choose"

Comus for sure but I do like that Spirogyra record. The other one is new to me but I enjoyed the sample.

I've heard some of the Chrissy Lucy album before in poll or thread you made at one point; I knew the title rang a bell. Ultimately, I ended up voting for Spirogyra. I like the other two but not as much as that Spirogyra album.

Larry Pee O Lol!!!
Big surprise, I know. I think I've had the same infatuation with this album as you Greg. It sneaks up on you. It certainly did to me. Don't get me wrong, I loved it from the very first spin, but with time it has gone from a very very good album to one of those platinum carrot ones. The ones you can't eat, but boy do you want to! Btw I think I slightly prefer the Bells, Boots and Shambles album from Spirogyra. The opening cut is a personal fave of mine.

Bells, Boots and Shambles may very well actually be my favourite Spirogyra too. It certainly was my favourite at first of the first three, and then I got more into St. Radigunds for a while -- I did almost choose that album for this poll. I like all of the first three very much, and am kind of surprised that Old Boot Wine is rated so much lower than its predecessor and follow-up.
I also loved the Perrry Leopold from first spin, but like you, my appreciation deepened with subsequent spins. The first track initially stood-out for me for some reason at first, but now that is the only track I sometimes skip. Also, the overall progressiveness of the whole album didn't strike me at first, and it took a while for the music to really unfold for me. I suggested Perry Leopold for PA after a member PMed me about the album knowing I'd love it, and I thought Prog Folk Related at first. Just cause I want post another clip for people to check out: |

I knew you'd have Spirogyra in here, Logan.
I'd vote but i've never really listened to any of these. Mainly because they seem like they would tickle my fancy and would disagree with my general tastes. *shrug* I'll listen to some of the clips provided here later on though! Edited by Horizons - May 01 2014 at 12:28 |

I like all three albums here, but I like Comus First Utterance the most.
