I never cared for Heap that much to actually check the Lawton era but I got most of Lucifer's Friend albums, I love that band and Lawton is a great singer.

Oh great interview!

John is a fantastic singer. LF is great and Firefly is my favorite Heep. I also like John's subsequent bands, particularly Rebel.

A fascinating interview. It's good to read of a seventies rock star who is happy with his 'lot' and not quarreling with his former bandmates. All credit to the interviewer - thanks for posting.

Lucifer's Friend debut album whips Deep Purple's In Rock for me !!!
Heep always steered me away with their penchant for writing commercial tunes......though the vocals and musicianship I do realise as top-notch.

I just thought i'd comment here as well.I found the interview very, very interesting.Lucifer's Friend debut is a great work, the cover is sorta disturbing though.I's rather gaze at Black Sabbath's Born Again or Heeps Abominog than it.Actually Abominog is not so hideous to me as it seems to be to lots of folks, not sure i'd want to walk down the street wearing a T-Shirt with on it lol....I like to describe LF debut as a cross between Black Sabbath & Uriah Heep.Whether anyone else might agree with my analysis is unknown. As i stated in another thread i'm going to buy LF Banquet next.John Lawton has a very appealing voice,at times he reminds me of Ronnie James Dio-with his voice only.Completely different style though.I enjoy many songs he sang with with Heep. Some that come to mind are The Hanging Tree,Been Away Too Long,Free And Easy,Choices,I'm Alive.
"Nobody's Gonna Change My World That's Something To Unreal"   Lyrics that i live my life by-from Black Sabbath's Technical Ecstasy's track You Won't Change Me

Thank you for posting that.

I like the Lawton era in UH's discography.
He's not Byron but he's got a very good set of pipes anyway.

I still don't know his work with Lucifer's Friend but sure it's on the list...
you should check it out .Lucifer's Friend is great

Hi,

I interviewed John Lawton of Uriah Heep and Lucifier's friend for my blog.  The link for this interview can be read at http://jeffcramer.blogspot.com/2014/04/a-very-candid-conversation-with-john.html
