Eskaton for me. Heart But I really like Setna and Shub.  Alcest is not my thing.

BTW, Sag, you didn't tell me your thoughts about L'effet Vapeur : "Pièces et accessoires" ?

When Shub is present it is hard for me to vote for other things.

And I won't be here either. Les Mort... for me.

Gotta give Setna a vote but man this isn't easy with 4 Visions on there along with NIL and SHUB.

I just finished listening to Eskaton myslef, it's been a while and I forgot what an incredible album that is, the bass playing and the overall mood is so intense, I love it but can't decide just yet.

And L'effet Vapeur is gradually growing on me, I have to be in the right mood though and it's very rewarding, they do have that Crimson influenced parts but still very different and experimental, kinda reminds me of Miriodor actually.

Damn.......this is impossible Sagi!LOL

I count 3 masterpieces here, NIL, Shub and Alcest. On any given day I may prefer one over the other, but today, seeing as Alcest only has one measly vote, that's where mine goes.

Yep, definitely great stuff from the Maurin brothers, much closer to their Thork project than Syrinx, I really love the sound of this album, the woman vocals fits perfectly.

But a goat? I thought it was a dog...

Oh I agree this one ain't easy, my peronal three favourites are Setna, Shub and Eskaton, I actually don't mind voting for either of them, but I'll go with Setna today, I never thought Zehul could be so soothing and relaxing, even in their stronger moments they don't lose their serenity. Superb stuff, and I seem to like this one over their next album too.

I hear ya mate, this album is a beast from another planet! it's one of those albums where the sound of the instruments and album are so crucial, and goes hand in hand with the music. By far the scariest album I've ever heard.

BTW a few weeks ago I got a bootleg CD of their demo recording (cassette only I think). I haven't spent much time with it but it sounds very good as well, the sound quality is inferior to the debut which captures them in full glory, but still very much ok. There's a version of Yog-Sothoth and other 4 "new" tracks! sounds good for sure.

Thanks for the vote Dave, I've seen you speak of this album very fondly before. It's the only Alcest album I know and I have it for some time now but still haven't figured it out yet, I hope I will some time soon...

I found the keys to that album on a beach. Listening to this in 30 degrees sunshine, bathed in sweat and overpowering sunlight may just be the best way to get into it, I findBig smile

Was that suggested in the CD's booklet?? Well good then! It's turning into summer now and 30 degrees is considered as pleasant, it easily gets up to 40 degrees here, but maybe that will speed up the good karma  Approve

Well 40 degrees is pushing it for a viking. It wasn't that long ago we had 15 below with snow and winds that could peel off your face.... Then again it might just work for you;)
I was listening to NIL's Quarante Jours Sur Le Sïnai this morning. Sometimes I think I may even prefer it over Nil Novo Sub Sole, and that is saying something - you know how much I love that thing. Have you heard 'Sïnai' Sagi?

Sinai? I've been there! but never heard that band?! Smile
Edit: Oh I didn't read the whole title, thought it was a band. Ok Nil's other album? No I haven't...yet.

Well it is definitely worth getting. I believe it was Logan who recommended it to me a good while back.
The tunes all flow together as one, and there is a red thread running through it both lyrically and musically. A beautiful concept album about the ancient Egyptian culture. Personally I just love that thing, I blame Asterix for that - yet another Frenchie
