I discovered Phideaux with Doomsday Afternoon. Only later I delved into the earlier work consisting of less proggy and shorter songs. But I think the shorts hold as much Phideaux magic as the epic works like for example Doomsday or Snowtorch.

Rainboy
When he rides, my fears subside.
For darkness turns once more to light.
Through the skies, his white horse flies.
To find a land beyond the night.

driving across the vast BC desert on a return trip from my grandfather's funeral One Star struck me for the first time as a brilliant piece of music. It is beautiful and heavy in a way that doesn't detract from it's elegance. That song will always remind me of him. He was a great man who took on a family and faced the unfairness of life without blaming it on anybody and he did it with courage.

Rainboy...though i think P really hit his stride on Doomsday...that and the albums that follow are fantastic

Perhaps there is a brilliant short track on Infernal, though it seems we'll never hear it at this rate

Sorry for your loss!

Driving through deserts and listening to good music!!! There are not many things that beat those experiences.

Now that you mention the word comfort, makes me think: I guess Phideuaux is my musical comfort food. It always works! All albums! 99% of all tracks.
