All great of course, but today I'm in a Lady Fantasy mood. Perhaps because I was listening to Camel today and really enjoyed that song... and perhaps because that's the last song I got to know of the bunch, so it's fresher for me. However, there are solos I like better from some of the other bands.

I still remenber the first time I heard Firth of fifth and Sound Chaser back in 70's. It was like... Wow! Shocked

'Time' is also very good but it is also because of the sound.

Funny! You tough it was keyboard? It sounds a little bit like keyboard at some points.

I like all the songs, but I'll vote for Genesis Firth of Fifth.
When he rides, my fears subside.
For darkness turns once more to light.
Through the skies, his white horse flies.
To find a land beyond the night.

i heard all of the songs, but i'm least familiar with Camel still.... one of these days.... anyway, i chose Rush for this one, but the other three songs are fantastic, 2nd place would be Genesis btw.

All these are fantastic and as much as I have reservations about Dark Side of The Moon, I have no reservations about the genius of Gilmour on that album and Time is a soaring monument to his talent.

Indeed and yet it has this violin-like brilliance to it that sounds like some kind of yearning, but I know this is far from a simple solo. If anything, it's 'deceptively simple.'  That's one of the great things about Hackett is he can make something that sounds incredibly difficult to play sound so effortless.

Absolutely. Work with the volume pedal was experimental back then, but he not only explored volume swells, but brought a real poetry to them. The scale that song is using is A Dorian minor, the first scale I learned way back when. Maybe true for a lot of other people too? Anyway, it doesn't sound as hackneyed or run-of-the-mill as most people playing in A Dorian minor.

I can't help but think that in all of these, granted, wonderful guitar tunes, it's still the ambience and groove of the surrounding instruments that really underlines the music as a whole. Somewhat obvious comment I know, but imagine Firth of Fifth without Banks' tip toeing piano or maybe La Villa Strangiato bar the frenetic boom of the rhythm section.

As for a personal favourite? Ehhh... let's go with Gilmour today.

It pains me to admit that Time is probably the most influential one here.
