A bottle of Chateau de Sarsons to those who even attempt to compare Neur's punched clearance and collision with Higuain with that of Schumacher's GBH on Battiston which left the latter in a coma from 1982. Get a clue people.The better side won and even if Argentina created the three best chances, if you don't hit the target you don't deserve to score. Unless it was for some sort of injury I can't for the life of me think why Sabella chose to replace the dangerous Lavezzi with the utterly ineffectual Aguero? Howedes should have seen red for a nasty foul on Zabaleta while Mascherano should have seen red for a sly kick in Schweinsteiger's back. (Decent) game until extra time which just degenerated into stalemate. Messi basically evaporated into thin air circa the hour mark but i thought he had been OK up till then. His golden ball award appears to have been more a marketing exercise by FIFA than anything else wtf?

I believe the Golden Ball isn't voted, but rather (much like the Golden Boot) automatically given to the player most times voted Man of the Match during the competition.

Pretty much how I saw the game, the Neur play bears no comparison to Schumacher's. He was playing the ball in the box, played the ball first & didn't 'target' the player. It was a clean play.

Messi was anonymous after his first couple of runs & missed a clear chance.

Better team won.

According to wikipedia - The Golden Ball award is presented to the best player at each FIFA World Cup finals, with a shortlist drawn up by the FIFA technical committee and the winner voted for by representatives of the media

That wasn't a penalty,

The goalie hit the ball first, the rest was inertia.

On the other hand, that criminal called Agüero should had seen red card.

Actually I have a clue, people . It is imperative to look at the entire comment "Memories of Schumacher vs Battiston ?" I was asking a question (per John McEnroe) , if I personally thought so I would have added a !

Battiston was knocked right out , evacuated on a stretcher and hospitalized! Higuain got up, complained and fell to the pitch.

I'm really surprised by all the anti-Argentina comments here, how can you say that wasn't a penalty as big as the Maracaná stadium is beyond me, makes me think if you ever played football in your life Confused

If there has been a constant since I watch the world cups (1986 - 82 I was just 4 years old) it's that usually the best team of the tournament wins. It has continued to be so.

I've played for 35 years and refereed for a decade. Makes me think Argentinians are looking for excuses.

I played in the semi pro league as goalie.

We had referees who came to talk to us, as long as you touch the ball before you touch the rival, it's a legal play, anybody who has played football knows that.

You know who was helped?
