Topic: Jazz Poll Vol. V - 1967-68!!!! Posted: June 18 2014 at 18:42 |
Finally Miles is back on track (imo). Four classics in two years. Transitional years with some real classics and lots of largely unknown gems.
Another top five:
1. Andrew Hill - Compulsion!!!!! 2. Prince Lasha & Sonny Simmons - Firebirds 3. Pharoah Sanders - Tauhid 4. Miles Davis - Sorcerer 5. Byard Lancaster - It's Not Up to Us
Check out Compulsion!!!!! everyone. Its as good as music gets and Andrew Hill is the piano-genius of jazz.

I'm sorry I'm being so predictable in these things but...Strange Strings is love.

I have a vinyl of Miles' Sorcerer framed in my room. Prince Of Darkness was one of my introductory jazz tracks plus i always liked the artwork. I voted Miles in the Sky though. I'm not a huge fan of a lot of Miles Davis' output but we're getting around to some of the ones i enjoy, and that one could possibly be my most played album by him.

John Coltrane's Om, Miles Smiles, and The Real McCoy are all albums I love from these two years. I like them equally, so I'll go with Om, since both Coltrane and McCoy are on it. Voting other.

Although solid their both just outside my own top 24. To my ears McCoy Tyner made his dozen of classics ca. 68-76 starting with Expansions*.
*... an album I've forgotten to include btw.

| Om is indeed fantastic. Didn't realize the release date, but I imagine I still would have voted for Strange Strings.

If you don't know enough to vote here do yourself a favour and check out some of these albums. They're all more progressive than most prog. Just listen to "Upper Egypt and Lower Egypt" on Tauhid.
