I find it halarious that if a couple weeks ago, if anyone started a thread about rap / and hiphop, there'd be nothing except i hate it posts.

but as soon as jon anderson says he digs rap, we get

you should never bash a genre

and it can be cool

and well what if its prog rap

and no..i like rap and hiphop...really..i do.....gopdOGJJ!! I LOVE JON ANDERSON!! SO I LOVE RAP!

I can strangle a canary in a tin can and it would be really original, but that wouldn't save it from sounding like utter sh*t.

Are you hopeful about the music of the future?

Absolutely. I relate to the current culture of space music, the people who make electronic music related to early Stockhausen and Vangelis, but adding hiphop beats. That music appeals to me because it's truly music of the present day — it literally couldn't have been made 50 years ago. I also find that the rap world has become an exciting area for musical juxtaposition. Obviously, there's a lot of crass, commercial stuff, but some of it, like Eminem, is really amazing. Actually, I've written a rap opera that will come out one day, believe it or not.

This thread is so surreal...... I feel I'm on a trip right now.

Jon Anderson doing a rap opera? What's next? Fripp doing some choreography live on the next Crimson show?

Eminem??? Eminem sucks! There are alot of good HipHop out there, but eminem is just as bad as 50cent and snoop dog and all that sh*t. If you won't good American hiphop you should pay attention to Old School, especielly Public Enemy! Modern American hiphop sucks, but there are alot of good europian stuff!

Poor misguided spiritual Jon.

Can you guys imagine him rapping "Tales from the Topographic Oceans"?
The really awful thing is:

I can.
And Jesus said unto John, "come forth and receive eternal life..."
Unfortunately, John came fifth and was stuck with a toaster.

A rap version of TFTO would be worth hearing, and would probably be an improvement.

What we really need is some Kobaian rap.

I've got my doubts about how much to contribute

That is really disappointing. Rap is essentially tuneless garbage made by non-musicians. No matter occasionally how ingenious the lyrics may be it is musically retarded.

Before anyone judges or writes it off, we should wait to hear it out. It might be interesting.

I hate to burst your bubble, but that is one of the most narrow-minded comments I've heard on here. Yeah a lot of rap sucks (Lil Jon for example), but if you haven't heard stuff like NWA and KRS-One you can't just write the WHOLE GENRE off just because they don't play instruments. One band actually DOES play instruments, called The Roots.

What a tool, yo.

I'm sure snoop dog is desperate to do a 'feat' with Mr White Bread Jon Anderson.
