I don't know how 'prog' this new successor project to the Mars Volta is, but I gather that it will be of interest to a few people on here considering the membership; Omar Rodriguez-Lopez and Cedric Bixler Zavala, Dave Elitch and Flea. The self titled debut can be listened to here;

I think that the new music is pretty good; energetic, organic and concise. However it definitely strays far from the Mars Volta formula, and I just wondered what other people think of it!

I've been loving the singles they've released. I wish they left the west coast for tours.
Didn't know whole thing was out - sweet!

The first song I heard was 4AM. I instantly heard classic rock influences. Still having a really tough time pin pointing a specific band. But I will say that I have always thought Cedric is most passionate at the end of his songs and you can defiantly hear that in 4AM. I personally love them.

If people haven't been paying attention, Antemasque is being physically released in a few days. The original digital release was... botched, to say the least, so now they/the label are pretending it never happened and pretending that this is the actual, original release.

I listened to their album and I find it a bit samey, I must say. It has a couple of good songs (Rome armed to the Teeth, Drown all your Witches, 4 AM), for sure, but I think they can do more. I have faith though, becasue Omar has been a good composer in TMV, and I think he can be that in Antemasque too. I don't want them to sound like TMV, of course (that would be pointless, in my opinion).
