Not Genesis' best album, but definitely shouldn't be rated their worst IMO. I think the songs are pretty innovative, catchy, well arranged, fairly consistent and varied, and there's a great production. Guaranteed, the lyrics and some of the music is a bit cringeworthy at times, but still a good progressive album, and one of my favourites pop albums. Easily beats "Calling All Stations"...

Anyway, thoughts?? Big smile

Three of the five best songs recorded at those sessions were left off the album (Feeding the Fire, Do the Neurotic and I'd Rather Be You)...Those three along with Domino and The Brazilian (the other two of the best songs) would have made a good EP, or you could throw in Tonight, Tonight, Tonight, Anything She Does and Land of Confusion (three decent if not great songs) and had a good 4 star album.  The title track, In Too Deep and Throwing It All Away are horrid though and really bring this album down to a 2 1/2 star album.
I can understand your anger at me, but what did the horse I rode in on ever do to you?

At least it has some good songs and it is definitely not their worst album in my book. Domino is one of their best post-W&W songs, Tonight, Tonight, Tonight and The Brazilian are good tracks and In Too Deep, Anything She Does and Throwing It All Away are disposable. A 3-star album.

I like it, though the title track really disappointed me at first back in '86.  Compared to "Mama" it's a pretty weak album opener.  The rest of the album is fine though, with Land of Confusion and The Brazilian being my favorites, and In too Deep is one of my favorite songs I might hear on a soft rock station pumping through an office building.

Its a well made album during a time when it seems prog rock meant nothing anymore...I think there is a little bit of everything on that album.
Just shows their ability to go down different roads......It still gets decent amount of spins by me.

Sometimes I like the album, sometimes I just shake my head. Domino will always be one of their best 80's pieces though.

I like this album too, for what it is. A really good pop album with some great moments.

I really enjoy Invisble touch. Half of the album (in terms of time) is prog or pseudo prog, like Domino and Brazilian and why not Tonight tonight. Feeding the fire and Do the neurotic are there too. And all in all is still Mr. Banks, he made all this tracks mainly, with the exception of Tonight. The pop side is high quality pop and Rutherford's Land of confusion really rocks. Many great lyrics too.

"It's an epic meditation on intangibility." Sorry, I couldn't resist. Now that's out of my system...

Of the songs I've heard so far, I like the title track, "Tonight, Tonight, Tonight" and, on a good day, "Land Of Confusion". "Throwing It All Away" is okay, but I find "In Too Deep" to be a bit too poppy for my tastes.

In contrast to the self titled material this one feels a bit weak in places but isn't terrible. 3 stars from me too.

The title track is so lame its depressing but as said there are some good tracks although Domino works better as a live track especially the version on The Way We Walk The Longs.
