the five albums are clearly these, regarding the sequence it's hard to tell precisely, it can change depending on my mood of the day but your sequence is pretty similar as mine.

Zeroing in on the five albums is not as hard as say it might have been for a band with a more extensive discography like Genesis. I think a lot of people wouldn't rate Prologue on par with those five; some might consider the self titled album of the earlier album as a match for those or even better.

1. Ashes Are Burning 2. Turn of the Cards 3. Debut 4. Song For All Seasons 5. Prologue As you can see, I disagree about Prologue at least compared to Novella and Scheherazade. Although those would be 6 and 7 respectively.

I can understand your anger at me, but what did the horse I rode in on ever do to you?

I think I probably like the Renaissance s/t more than Prologue. Other than the title track and Sounds of the Sea, it's mostly an album of songs that promise to falter. IMO, that is.

I like the debut over Prologue for sure. I love the title track and Raja Khan off Prologue the most.

Azure D'or would be up there to, that one I feel is really underrated.

A very good album, indeed. Everything except for Camp's 'Only Angels Have Wings' is highly enjoyable, especially 'The Golden Key' (a classic Renaissance epic condensed into 5 minutes).

I think Novella and SFAS are their most underrated albums. There is a kind of perception that the band had lost it at this point which perhaps leads people to not really give those albums much of a chance. I can at least understand that the commercial element in SFAS might be a turn off but Novella is pretty 'true' to their style and nicely incorporates a little more of acoustic guitar in their sound which I believe they should have always done. And Annie imo sings a lot more confidently on Novella or SFAS than on Ashes or Cards where she was still a bit raw.

I have a soft spot for Jon Camp's vocal work, so count me happy with just about everything on Azure D'or. The Flood at Lyons is such a great closer. Novella has such an atmosphere, such a sorrowful mood throughout.

I on the other hand have never been fond of Camp's work (as a vocalist, not that I dig his live bass solos either). Plus, looking also at Grandine Il Vento, I think the band at some point got so dependent on orchestra that when it was yanked off in Azure D Or, it resulted in their sound suddenly getting rather bland. If it weren't Annie singing those songs, it could be any band. The peculiar Renaissance flavour was gone. Of course on Ashes Are Burning they were not yet so dependent on orchestra but it probably increased Cards onwards.

I find it difficult to pick a fave Bassist between Camp and Squire....... Both played Ricky's, both pulled off amazing lines for their pieces...... I love both bands equally.....
