Greetings,

Last night I checked out a few Phil Keaggy videos on YouTube and I was very surprised.
I had heard about him since I was about 19, and heard he was a great guitar player, but
what I heard of him never really caught my ear or brain.  If I was told that he was a
crossover Jazz-Classical-Pop artist who was Christian, I would have been interested.
It turns out some of his playing is closer than 95% of most prog out there to authentic
classical "improvisation."

Check out The Reunion, The Wind and the Wheat, him playing the Moog Guitar,
Castle's Call / Pilgrim's Flight, and Fragile Forest.  This is about 90% of the selections
I made on YouTube, that is, I haven't listened to much of his catalog yet.

Phil is such a great guitarist.  I have seen some of those Youtube videos with the Moog Guitar...amazing!  I am not 100% sure if the quote I have seen/heard is true but Jimi Hendrix was asked who he thought the best guitarist was and he said Phil keaggy.  I think he also has great vocals.

His music goes all over the place.  His early start was with a 60s band called Glass Harp, check them out if you can.  He has played on Neal Morse's album "One".  I have had a number of his solo albums over the years and one of my favorites is "Cinemascapes", all instrumental and could fall into the prog world.  Also, The Master and Musician is a classic, not prog but excellent.

I have a couple of his albums amongst my (now unplayable) vinyl collection. They are Love Broke Through and Emerging (the latter a good rock album, sadly out of print for many years). I also have a Glass Harp album. I never regarded him as prog though.

Check out the track "Time" on Youtube. It has a great riff and a wonderful extended interplay between guitar and keyboard in the middle.

Great artist. I always admired his work over the years.
