Topic: PFM or Banco? Posted: July 23 2014 at 13:45 |
2 classic Italian prog rock artists, both very highly rated on this website, but which is your favourite? Going for PFM myself - Per Un Amico is awesome and the only RPI album I own
Thanks for any feedback

Masterpieces: Per Un Amico, Stati Di Imma, Banco del Mutuo (debut), Io Sono Nato Liberto.
Flawed, but fantastic: Darwin!, L'Isola, Storia di un Minuto.
So, that's 2 masterpieces each for Banco and PFM... One flawed masterpiece for Banco, two for PFM. So I suppose PFM! I think Banco is a more unique band, (I don't think they sound like any other band) while PFM is reminiscent of Genesis... Though I can listen to PFM anytime, I have to be in the mood for Banco...
I could keep going around in circles, but I'll go with PFM.

Dig me...But don't...Bury me I'm running still, I shall until, one day, I hope that I'll arrive Warning: Listening to jazz excessively can cause a laxative effect.

Banco for me, easily. PFM was a slight disapointment for me. I do like some things from them, but I found them a bit bland. Banco perhaps was also a bit of a disapoinment when I first got some from them, but I soon got used to their sound and I do love them now. And Francesco is indeed one of my very favourite singers in prog, and one of the most unique. He's just awsome.

I only have one Banco album (Darwin!) and a lot of PFM in the form of compilations (the English and Italian versions) and a live box set (Cook). I would lean towards PFM from what I've heard but probably not fair to vote on that basis. I need more Banco!

Premiata Forneria Marconi - I love them for their first four albums, especially L'Isola Di Niente; their music is so full of emotion
I like Banco, they have a lot of musical intelligence, good ideas, freshness, and I admire them for Darwin and Io Sono Nato Libero especially, but they don't move me as much as PFM do
