I'm starting to see what I consider to be excessive censorship on this site. It started with the posting. A** instead of Ass and that sort of thing. Some of it may have been self censorship to be sure. I've censored myself out of respect for other site visitors. But now I see this sort of thing happening. These are different images than what they were a few years ago.

And this

http://www.progarchives.com/album.asp?id=14576

My feeling is that someone (site administrator??) is going too far with this sort of thing and damaging the artistic integrity of what was done by the bands. We're not a bunch of 12 year old's here and even if 12 year old's visit the site what are they being protected from, cleavage, bare butts?? Give me a break!!  In Canada we value freedom of expression and I thought the US liked to wave the oh so holy "Free Speech" flag as well. I really would like to hear from as many members as possible on this so I can understand if there is a disconnect between what we all expect as members and what we are 'given' by the controlling parties or if I'm just out in left field all be myself.

Thank you for supporting independently produced music

This is censorship by Google and has been going on for a while. There are plenty of threads about it if you look around.

Google is using economic pressure to force the site into censoring images. To some degree, this is a family site so pornographic images and or excessive nude images should be frowned upon and always have been here. But this is a music site and to force PA to censor album art is seriously problematic for me. But the villain is Google, not PA.
I can understand your anger at me, but what did the horse I rode in on ever do to you?

Unless we charge for usage (yeah, right, like that's gonna work) or find a sponsor (not a good idea) then Google Ads are the only viable way of paying for it. So yes, threat of withdrawal of adverts is very serious and very valid. The violation warning notice Max received from Goolge AdSense is very real. If we lose Google Ads we lose the site - plain as.

Personally, I think Google Ads are over reacting and Max is being over-cautious, we need to balance the need for complying with Google's Terms and Conditions and being sensible about it.

PA may be overly censored, possibly not the fault of PA but as posts notes, Google. Corporate draconian control freakery.  It may be symptomatic of someone trying to control your thoughts and manipulating current culture.
Good concept album stuff. What next? Ban the Guitar? Surely not! Someone.. assuming control. Smoke There stands the clock at 12 minutes past 9.

I have been assuming the censorship I have seen on this was self-inflicted out of a general sense of decency. I myself was censored for using the word "w**ker" on a discussion last year relating to one Howard Stern, a word I would assume is less offensive than "retard." Perhaps we will see on this forum.

I reserve the right to change my mind, but I've had no direct experience of any censorship problem.

I don't mind the asterixed swears in the forum, but the pixelated album art is ridiculous and absurd for a site about music. Absurd, I say!

Yeah, I had notice this about some people avatar's. But actually I notice when it got to the extreme of censoring a cow's udders and some women in bikini. Just ridiculous.

'Retards' in all likelihood can create more retards (and w*nkers) but w*nkers, by definition cannot. Regardless of the perceived offensiveness of the respective terms, it's the former that carry the greater threat. Even hell has a door policy. But nah, censoring your posts has clearly f.u.c.k. all to do with Google Wink

Yeah, the censoring of album art is all Google:

They're banning 'sexually explicit content' on pages which feature their advertising. It is, of course, absurd, but hardly PA's fault. Clearly Michelangelo's David and Renaissance paintings and the like should be removed from public viewing so that children don't have to endure the horror of gazing upon the human form.

My main complaint is the moving of threads so you end up being thrown all around the site. Do I want to end up on the fun forum? Do I look like someone who has fun?LOL
