Order of preference for the two albums: 1. Day in the Life 2. Us and Them 3. Speak to Me/Breath/On the Run/Time 4. Any Colour/Brain Damage/Eclipse 5. Lucy in the Sky 6. Great Gig in the Sky 7. Within You, Without You 8. Money 9 etc. the rest of Sgt Pepper Dark Side of the Moon wins this one. It has no bad tracks whereas Sgt Pepper has "When I'm 64", and "Lovely Rita" is rescued only by the first 20 seconds. Also, both have one track which doesn't fit. Shifting Money to WYWH would improve both albums, similarly She's Leaving is totally wrong for Sgt Pepper but would be a good song on the White Album.

Robert Fripp on hearing the Beatles Sgt Pepper
Robert Fripp- When I was 20, I worked at a hotel in a dance orchestra, playing weddings, bar-mitzvahs, dancing, cabaret. I drove home and I was also at college at the time. Then I put on the radio (Radio Luxemburg) and I heard this music. It was terrifying. I had no idea what it was. Then it kept going. Then there was this enormous whine note of strings. Then there was this colossal piano chord. I discovered later that I'd come in half-way through Sgt. Pepper, played continuously. My life was never the same again.

Pink Floyd The Dark Side of the Moon.

When he rides, my fears subside. For darkness turns once more to light. Through the skies, his white horse flies. To find a land beyond the night.

I like them both, but for very different reasons. First of all, remember that these two were made six years apart. Sgt. Pepper's led the way in recording technique for the times. Layers of multi-tracked instruments and vocals which were quite new and creative. Dark Side of the Moon took these techniques and pushed them to their ultimate limits. So, points for originality to Sgt. Pepper's and points for overall end product to DSOTM. One thing for sure, both of these albums represented the peak of their genres in their day. Powerful stuff all around.

Sgt. Peppers! I always felt a bit refractory to Dark Side. This album is remarkable for its universality, his federative power but it still not as good as Sgt. Peppers.
