The new My Brother The Wind - Once there was a time and a place
Ridiculous title though
You would think that there always are times and places?
This sounds fantastic
Agreed!!
David did you check out Wolves in the Throne Room - Celestite yet?
It's a departure from their previous work (as in ambient/drone stuff not black metal) and its definitely got some berlin school influence I was thinking it could be compatible with your tastes?
I did indeed. I've only had it for a short while though but am seriously digging what I'm hearing. Often these kinds of ambient releases can get quite conform and nameless -with Celestite there's definitely something else going down.

Oh I see you already made a thread about it So you knew about it before I did!
I've given it several listens and I think it's here to stay, what a breath of fresh air! Definitely going to try and pick up a physical copy (now that they are all sold out)
I see you've been digging Grails lately. Have you by any chance checked out Zak Riles from Grails and his newest venture called Watter? It's a collab with a guy from Slint (the post-post-rock originators). If you dig Grails, then you're going love this. Very spacious and airy release but still with loads of Grails touches.

Oh man, thanks for the heads up! I think I saw it mentioned but never went back to check it out. This is beautiful
I got my hands on Swans latest, and it will surely be a contender for AOTY for me along with Kayo Dot's Coffins on Io. This year has been great and not only in ze prog world

You know i've been wanting to hear your thoughts on it for a long time, David. I'm glad that you've taken a likening towards it - Coffins on Io is another wonderful release but a similarly consistent band. The Mortality of Doves is mesmerizing to me. I could hardly believe it when i heard the vocals on the album, Toby really has outdone himself in that department.

It's weird, because, by all accounts, I should love Coffins on Io. Kayo Dot and retro future noir? I'm there. I do like it and I like it better each time, but I don't think it'll be one of my favorites. We'll see. Kayo Dot has a tendency to make albums that don't hit me right until the next year.
If you guys need a new PR release this year - check out This Will Destroy You's Another Language. They're a fairly overlooked band but this is another good record by them. Nothing groundbreaking, but good is good.
Heh I feel like that with most Kayo Dot releases. Judging by some of the reviews I've read of their more experimental releases, they should be my favourite band.....but I just couldn't get into them. Choirs, lambency, Hubardo I think I've tried them all at some point and somewhere along the ride I forget to listen to the music. Happens every time with every album until I heard Coffins on Io.

The only 2014 albums, of any genre, that I've listened too are Pink Floyd's and Ian Anderson's. Serious question: Were there any albums released this year that sound like they were released in the mid-70s?
