2 sort of "rival" Canterbury bands that both birthed from "The Wilde Flowers" and created many classic prog rock albums. But which is your favourite? Smile

Man this is hard. I have more five star Soft Machine albums and also because of all the posthumous live releases I just have way more music by SM than Caravan, still it's hard not voting for Caravan but I just didn't.LOL

The Softs every time. I still can't quite get into Caravan. No balls, no rich melodies, no experimental spirit ... eh.

I'm a big Canterbury fan and love them both but after the third album Soft Machine went into jazz fusion more than any Canterbury style so I have to pick Caravan  who's first 5 albums are all excellent imho.

Caravan, but I like Soft Machine for Vol. 2, Third and Bundles.
I still need to check out quite some Softs albums (those between Third and Bundles).

Soft Machine for sure.
Dig me...But don't...Bury me
I'm running still, I shall until, one day, I hope that I'll arrive
Warning: Listening to jazz excessively can cause a laxative effect.
