For me it's
Rush- Signals 2112 MP Permanent Waves Hemispheres Hold Your Fire Farewell To Kings Vapor Trails
vs
Porcupine Tree- Fear of a Blank Planet In Absentia Lightbulb Sun Recordings Stupid Dream Up the Downstair
It's close but giving it to Rush.

For me Rush had the best albums in their early career but Porcupine Tree is a much more consistent band delivering absolutely no throwaways. Tough choice. How do you compare such things? I usually don't like to compare bands but i'll go for Rush

Rush for me without a doubt. I'm not a huge Porcupine Tree fan. But this is coming from a guitarist who is awestruck by Lifeson's playing, especially during that 'synth period'. I also loved the way Geddy integrated sequencers and keyboards into the band and made them so organic. They really were never intrusive and the parts for the keyboards that did get highlighted were always so tastefully done. Plus, I just respect Geddy, Alex, and Neil a hell of lot more than Steven Wilson, Gavin Harrison, etc.

My list is similar, though Porcupine dominates Rush.

The fact that Alex played on one of their albums shows you the power of Rush. Who do you think I am voting for?

Porcupine Tree, their sound is far better than Rush's, in my opinion.

Rush by 1000 miles. PT however can carry Rush's instruments.

Rush overall the much better band.. PT certainly have made some great albums though. I would certainly say that In Absentia and Deadwing are better than anything Rush produced post Counterarts...

Porcupine Tree by far. Rush recorded way too much of weak albums alongside with some real masterworks.
