Yes, they definitely could, but the general style of both Genesis and Rush are poles apart from each other stylistically, don't you think?
I agree, though I've heard prog bands that are more different from each other than Genesis are from Rush. However, the way I look at it isn't from the angle of how different they are from each other stylistically. Another way to think about it would be based on certain criteria, certain merits: knack for melody, consistency, emotional power, eclecticism, memorability of material, originality, etc.

Definitely Genesis.

If I were to think about using the criteria you've selected, I still think it's apples/oranges. Both bands express something completely different emotionally and intellectually. I love both bands, but Genesis are my favorite band of all-time.

Genesis, easily my favorite band. With that said I really like a lot of what Rush did, but Genesis resonates with me more.

But in all honesty I don't think 3 very good musicians can top 5 genius musicians.

That's a weird comment. Rush are rock with proggy overtones? I think you should get more Rush albums, maybe you're refering to their 80's albums.

And how can 3 musicians top 5 musicians?? It's not math man. By this logic you should love Gentle Giant more than Genesis and Asia more than Rush.

Went for both. Probably my 2 favourite prog acts, and both have written so many great albums. Even though Trespass, Foxtrot, and The Lamb would make my top 10, Rush is more powerful and awesome to play to Confused

Rush of course. Better musicians, more great albums, and they can dance.

The poll is about the two most popular prog bands in PA. As long as they are prog, the poll makes sense. And it's so supposed to be for fun so forget tying to make sense of it and have some fun. In two days from now no one will care who voted for who, who won, and what band's were even in the poles unless members go back and look up the poll. (like me) Wink

Genesis has some really good albums, but they just have never really clicked with me the way that Rush clicked with me.

I agree.  I like how they sort of orchestrate their music.  Not that there's any orchestra but just the way they develop their music is quite intricate.  The interlude of Mad Mad Moon is a good example of what I am thinking.
