Has anyone watched the documentary? A couple years ago, I read about the insanely ambitious project, and now there's a documentary about it. The documentary is phenomenal, and I cannot recommend it highly enough.

About the movie attempt:

In 1973, film producer Arthur P. Jacobs optioned the film rights to Dune but died before a film could be developed. The option was then taken over two years later by director Alejandro Jodorowsky, who proceeded to approach, among others, Virgin Records, with the prog rock groups Tangerine Dream, Gong and Mike Oldfield before settling on Pink Floyd and Magma for some of the music, artists H. R. Giger. Chris Foss and Jean Giraud for set and character design, Dan O'Bannon for special effects, and Salvador Dalí, Orson Welles, Gloria Swanson, David Carradine, Mick Jagger and others for the cast.[2]

The documentary is a great watch for sure. I wish it could have been made, but having watched the documentary I can see some of the reasons why it fell through.

I agree, but I was surprised at the success it still had in indirect ways. It was cool to see how it caused Giger to work on Alien (along with all the others who used their ideas in different movies) and lead to other uses of the art and ideas in other mediums like comics. I thought it was really inspiring to see how Jodorowsky doesn't see it as a failure despite the way it was a devastating loss. I hope that one day someone follows his comment about using the artistic ideas to make an animated adaption too.

Jodorowsky is probably the coolest and most energetic old fellow I have ever seen. I love how his son kind of pokes fun of how he had to be trained, and 'expand his mind'.  They both seem to know now how silly it was for him to be 'trained' so hard for his part in the movie.
All the great sci-fi movies seem to lead back to Dune in one way or another.  Ditto on seeing this animated.

Its in my Netflix queue. I read Dune as a kid and the first heard Christian Vander's voice I immediately thought that was what the Baron Harkonen would sound like.

As to be played by Orson Welles
