I finished reading the official rules and I understand now the second action.
I thought last year about getting this one, it's quite cheap for a planeswalker:

No worries, man!

That's a planeswalker I've never seen before. I got a couple of common foils/holos today as well...and an Overwhelm card which is perfect for my deck Smile.

How planeswalkers work:

You cast it for its casting cost and it enters the battlefield with loyalty counters on it equal to the number on the bottom right. Once on your turn, you can activate one of its abilities at sorcery speed, provided you have sufficient loyalty counters on it. Opponents can redirect damage to your planeswalkers and your opponents can attack them with their creatures. For each 1 point of damage it takes, you remove one loyalty counter from it. Once it has 0 or fewer loyalty counters on it, it is sent to the graveyard.

Thank you for clearing that up, Luna! Smile

What was/is the best planeswalker card, just out of curiosity? The new Garruk one looks pretty brutal, but I'm still rather new, and I've missed quite a few generations of cards.

He's the best I've seen so far as well! I was hoping I wasn't missing something due to my new-ness LOL.

Sounds about right LOL.

Jace is my favorite due to a personal bias (my name is Jason, I'm an aquarius, and extremely intellectual and into the mind, intuition, etc), so you can imagine the blue cards sort of "call" to me. I laugh every time I play Jace's Ingenuity, because I always say "Jason's Ingenuity!" LOL.

If we're talking favorite planeswalker character, then I have trouble deciding. Ashiok would be an easy favorite if Wizards would incorporate them into the story more (plus they've only been around for a year so there's potential), Nicol Bolas requires no explanation, and I have empathy for Liliana (being female and a self-centered a****le)

Lol! I had a hunch you were female, Luna, but I didn't want to assume LOL.

It's good to know such a mix of people are on these forums; what a fantastic community overall! By far one of the best, strongest, most long-standing communities of its kind. This thread is amazing, as well.

I think we're going to play some serious MTG this morning before lunch. I need to try out my new "killer bees" deck to see how it holds up! I'll definitely keep you guys posted on that.

For now, let's have some fun:

1. What's your current favorite card(s) to play?

2. What's your rarest/most valuable card (even if you've already sold it/traded it for something else?)

3. How often do you typically play Magic in any given week?

That picture is the same but the axe doesnt exit the boarder that way/not full art. The skills and whatnot are the same.

It's from Journey into Nyx.

Ah yes, upon further research I see that's from Nyx.

By the way guys and gals; my Hornet Queen/overwhelm deck is killing it. I won several games back to back with it yesterday! SO many tokens out on the field between Hornet Queen and Wolfpack; I always make sure I "have insurance" on those guys with a few negates/cancels in my hand to keep my opponent's attempts to clear the board at bay.

I also picked up this card at the shop downtown yesterday, and I'm going to rotate it into my deck. It's the highest-drawing mana card I'd have in there, but it's totally worth it and I can see it really throwing in a curveball with that "destroy three, get three 3/3" feature:

Also, there's apparently the first new subset for 2014 coming on September 20: something of Khan? Should be pretty neat!

Great card Thumbs Up

Khans of Tarkir seems awesome from the spoilers I've seen: it's the return of three-colored decks (like the Alara block) and the Morph ability from Onslaught Smile

Tarkir, that's right! I'm going to forget that word by the time I'm done making this post, lol.

That sounds awesome! My gf and I were talking about how we bet there's going to be a whole host of new combo-like cards coming out with this one. What are the benefits of the Morphing ability? Is that like the Turn to Frog type thing?

^Oh wow, that's a great card! It would go perfect in my current green/blue overwhelm deck! LOL

It certainly does Big smile
I like the Morph ability because I played my first MTG game with an Onslaught deck from the guy who taught me how to play. There's nothing like the first game Tongue

Awesome awesome AWESOME!

I must admit, I really enjoy the combo of green/blue. I love the "overwhelm" archetype green provides, and the "insurance policy" type effects that blue affords. Something about having those negate/cancel instants in my hands while my opponent tries to clear the board LOL.

Another thing I've been reading on MTGSalvation is the use of pretty much anything as tokens - including homemade printouts glued to cards, etc. I think that's really, REALLY cool. My gf was trying to argue with me during a heated game (when I was flooding the field) that "You shouldn't be able to play tokens if you don't actually have them!"; I knew that was bs, and I'm glad I looked online LOL.

Many will argue that that's a cheap way to play, but I couldn't disagree more. The black cards have the cheapest shots IMHO, with your cards getting exiles, opponent getting +1 life for every creature in your graveyard, lifelink everywhere, etc. We just got a new card in a booster yesterday, of which my gf readily swapped into her deck after I was decimating game after game:

I'll see you on the field with my swarm of bees, wolves, elephants - and several negates/cancels, bitches! LOL
