That's pretty much where I'm coming from; I'm going to be a casual player about 99% of the time. I AM interested in constructing standard decks to play at FNM, though.

That's the true beauty of this game IMHO; testing, playing, and running multiple decks! Tongue

So, my green/blue aggro token deck is pretty solid; I'm going to debut it next week at FNM and see how it does.

I'm thinking of constructing another experimental deck today using another unorthodox combination; perhaps red and blue? I really enjoy having cancel and negate at my disposal, as those are like insurance for my massive armies and calculated attacks. Are there other cards in other colors that perform similar functions that I could try out?

I think you can only find those cards in blue although there are other ways to protect your creatures: hexproof, indestructability, regenerate, protection from colors. You can also build a deck that benefits you if your creatures die

I built an awesome blue/white deck that actually did much better than I initially thought it would (winning about half of the games last night). It played slower and was way more unpredictable than my prize-winning killer bees deck, but it still worked. Red feels too easy to play and win with, and black is boring for me. I want to make an awesome five-color deck at some point that's actually playable with 60 cards.

Don't get your hopes up, since Maze's End is rotating.

I was aware of that about a month back, and I don't use ANY cards from that set in any of my decks.

Hornet Queen and Hornet's Nest (both M15 core) are pretty much the staple of my deck at this point.

Man, I want a booster box of M15 Core Set cards so bad, lol. I'll probably get the fat pack for the Khans of Tarkir, however. I'm hoping that set is decent.

Khans is going to be amazing and possibly the best set ever. I'm pumped.

Just curious what's got you so excited, Luna? I'm still somewhat of a n00b, so I could very well be staring right into the face of blatant awesomeness and not be appreciating it LOL.

On THAT note, this is absurd:

OKAY

Fetchlands are getting re-printed. These lands will also be modern legal for the first time and WILL NO LONGER BE $60-$100 apiece. I've also been looking forward to a wedge set for a very long time and am very happy that it's finally happening. And finally, the Mongolian theme seems really cool with a fantasy design.

^That seems to be what I'm hearing most about from MTG Salvation and others. Was Evolving Winds a fetch land - or are those something completely different? CardKingdom.com is already having a pre-sale on the dual-deck packs which will ship on September 5th.

Are there any cards in particular (besides fetch lands) that you guys and gals are looking forward to?

Going to test my mettle at FNM tomorrow evening in town. I feel I'm ready, as is my hornet deck Smile.

I will probably buy an intro or event deck and improve it, just like I did with my first deck.

^Very solid plan. A lot of bang-for-your-buck with those intro decks. They even come with two boosters! Those decks are only $15 here; two boosters costs $8 alone.

Got my ass handed to me at FNM tonight via the draft, lol. Was torn between choosing new cards I wanted for my M15 collection, and trying to build something I could actually play for the night...and wound up just getting more good cards that weren't really playable LOL.

Store owner is an incredibly nice guy, and even gave me a free booster at the end of the night for being the new guy and sticking it out! I'll post the cards I pulled in a little bit. I want to show up earlier next week and play my hornet deck against people instead of just getting there in time to draft; that was rough!

I only played draft on the video game and I suck at it: there's too many cards and I can't choose a decent set of cards

That's pretty much what I got out of it, lol. I felt like it was either pay the fee to draft and choose all the cards I wanted to collect/add to my current standard decks, or pay the fee and construct a deck I knew I could win with, composed mostly out of cards I already have/low-value cards. I'm not even sure what the prize was for the night, TBH.

I just want to play the decks that I spend time, imagination, and creativity constructing, damnit! LOL

Draft is fun because everyone is on the same level in terms of deck construction. You generally want to build a deck that will win, but if you fond money cards early on, building around those will certainly help you win. I pulled an Elspeth in a draft :3

My one soldier army: it was the only creature I played the whole game. LOL
